Background Information

Aight I am in the process of "renovating" my tech collecting and consolidating as well. I currently have a server running Server 2012 Essentials (replaces WHS 2011) built from my old rig (Phenom 9950 etc). This server is used to stream media, download files and serve as my always on-line sync server running AeroFS so I don't have to sync files to the cloud. However, the server is idle a lot of the time using anywhere BETWEEN 110W-160W and I want to cut down my power usage and heat output by not having such a power hungry rig on all the time, plus I also want to cut down on the amount of space required so I can easily put my NAS where ever I like. Hence I am planning to re-purpose the rig as a regular desktop for my dad to replace his old one, so he only turns it on when he needs it and then turns it off which reduces power consumption on a whole.

This is where the Synology DiskStation NAS DS413 comes into play as the replacement NASes.

The DS413 uses 35.62W (Access); 13.09W (HDD Hibernation); 3.37W (System Hibernation); and can do all the features of a full fledged server as well as the stuff I need from a server.
