Video Game textures are always rendered in super high quality then shrunk to the optimal size for a particular platform. When they found out about the PS4 RAM upgrade they probably just used their original files (or reduced the factor by which they were reduced).

That's probably what they did. I was thinking about saying that but then i started thinking about a case where you have to create more details in the assets because you can suddenly show off more of that detail. In the end though these games are not made in a month. They have many artists working over years which would mean much less than "500" can be ok. The last major killzone was kz3? 2 years ago

These next gen games are going to take longer than ever to make
Killzone dev: Effort needed to make next-gen game has "quadrupled". Those pretty graphics don't fall out of the sky. 500 is a good estimate and its not in house people this work is contracted out to sweat shops in china and singapore.

Yeah, good thing those xbone docs leaked last year or they might have stuck with it lol.

EDIT: Scratch that, I went back and re-read the doc. MS also wanted to go with 4GB initially, but they wanted to use DDR4.

Here's a pretty nice tech demo that GG put together.

So they basically used up all the PS4 resources to max out the presentation

A good chunk of those resources went to large, open levels, higher enemy counts (it can handle up to 24 before the frame rate suffers), and better AI, but yes, it's quite a looker too.
