Default Version control system. Any recommendations?

A group of my classmates are tackling our final project this term and will be developing some sort of software.

Is there a simple version control system that you guys recommend that can track/manage the changes made from each person?

Git if you think it is simple.

Yes, I think it is simple to use. However, I've noticed that many people have a problem grasping things that I find simple... So it depends on your classmates. SVN might be even a simpler option if you do not need all the features of git.
