    Thumbs up Xfire 2.0

So Xfire 2.0 is coming up, it's about time too.

You may remember that with the release of our last skin - Symbiosis - we announced the upcoming Xfire 2.0 client. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but we wanted to keep you updated on where we’re at.

We’re currently in the first alpha phase and are aiming for closed beta to start later in the fall. Join the Xfire Beta team for early access!

So, WHAT IS Xfire 2.0, exactly?

In a nutshell, Xfire 2.0 is:

Familiar for existing users. Most current features will be supported, with key functionality brought into the forefront. We’ve added the much requested games tab, where you can quickly see what your friends are playing and launch a game.
Easier to use. Key features are more intuitive and accessible which makes it easier for you to use. Information is no longer tabular requiring you to resize columns and/or the client to find what you’re looking for. Instead, information has been organized into tiles formatted to best deliver the most relevant information to you - be it text, thumbnails, box art, or avatars.

Thinner. The tiles eliminate the need for the side drawer allowing the client to retain its utility and usability while maintaining a thinner profile.

Ubiquitous. With Xfire 2.0, the Xfire In-Game overlay (XIG) will be reworked based on the kind of game you are playing. For point and click games like WoW or LoL, XIG has been designed to be an ever present addition to the game’s HUD. You can move it wherever you like. For Mouse Look games, like FPSs, XIG will be hidden until called up with a hot key.

Consistent. The UI is now as consistent as possible, both in and out of the game. We’ve broken this rule when it made sense; but generally speaking, unless it negatively impacts your game’s performance, everything you can do out of the game, can be done in the game.

Evolving more quickly. We’ve made a split between back end core functionality the front end UI elements making updates easier and faster, while also opening up the possibility of mods/add-ons from the users within the Xfire community.

So according to them, Symbiosis will be the their last official skin for Xfire as we know it and will be the new default skin for Xfire 2Beta.
Been using the default one for 6 yrs now, glad for a change.

The 2.0 version looks good. Can't wait.

And dude, at first I thought you were posting screenies of the 2.0 version, but realized is di current version you posting.
Then I was clueless on the last 2 screenies, on their relevance to the topic, but after maximizing the graphic and looking all over with a binoculars, I found the time and fps provided by xfire in the middle of your screen.

    Ahh bwoy.

Well pretty much they've said that this is how .ver 2 will look. Last skin for 1.0, default look for 2.0 only 2.0 will have game specific extras.
    Here's a vid I left out

And I was the one using binoculars to find it this after I hit the refresh button and it gone lol
but yeah the time and fps got a color change but that isn't the only thing, unfortunately, print screen won't take a shot of the ingame overlay so you gotta try it to see the difference.
Not sure I understand this thing about active and passive in game thing though...works quite fine as it is currently.

With xfire being active, there will be a button on the screen that you can click to open up xfire menu. Passive meaning there won't be a button, but will be activated via keyboard shortcut, like how it is.

The video shows you the active button demonstration. The little circular gray button.

Wait.. what? I'm pretty sure I been using this xfire 2.0 from last year since they included in-game webrowing in it, as well as allow you to move the ingame chat window and others to differnet locations manually.

Also that skin is the one I been using since last year up to now, so how is this news??

You guys must have not formatted in a while so you still got the old one I guess.

Naw xfire 2.0 hasn't been released yet, just some features and a skin. I remember being able to move the chat, fps, time, video etc overlay for the longest while though. Even when I format I just copy over the xfire folder as it has all my screenshots since '07 so you're right about that.

Xfire 2 Alpha 11 is now live.
A few months ago, we released a preview video of a pre-alpha version of the new Xfire. This version showed a prototype of the new Xfire In-Game overlay. It was the first venture toward a much needed refresh of both the User Interface, but also the core technologies of the the Xfire desktop app. We got a lot of good feedback from that video and have spent the last few months continuing to port more features over to it. Over the many years it has been in development, Xfire has grown a significant feature set; The size and scope of which has not made this overhaul a simple task.

The most important feature of Xfire is the ability to bring the outside world into your game. If Xfire can't detect and work inside all of your games, it isn't all that useful. This is why we have reworked the technology behind the Xfire In-Game overlay taking an approach that will increase performance and usability, and ensure compatibility with future games. We had planned to get this app to a beta before releasing it to the Xfire community. Getting this new technology to work with one game is easy. Getting it to work with over 3,500 titles currently supported by Xfire is not so easy. To get a solid product, we are going to need the support of our community.

This one doesn't currently have a maximize button. I guess the logic is that the Xfire window gets longer in length then allows you to scroll up/down when it gets too long.
I'd love to have it maximize though since I have the extra monitor real estate.
More functionality and options but took away a few as well like the music plugin and activity window as far as I've demoed it so far.

None of these buttons work for now. It detects (some) of my installed games but doesn't allow me to actually change the directories.

Some 4 years ago, los remarked to me on how you could add yourself as a friend to Xfire. I did just that, allows to make sure my games were displaying properly amongst other things.
I could also see myself online on the J4mR0cK Clan list. That's gone too as they fulfilled my (and I'm sure, others) suggestion of combining all online contacts regardless of clan under a online subgroup.
Haven't played any games with it yet, that's for later.

So went on xfire.com and see they are promoting the new 2.0 version. So decided to try it out.

    It's Buggy with a capital B!

Apart from some of the settings doesn't save, my main problem with it is that it uses 10-20% of my cpu power, just idling!
Complaints of the bugs in this new version are all over their feedback forum.

While I like the new features of this, they need to fix it up more.

Uninstalled and went back to the old version.
