    Default JPS Monopoly Illegal

    CURE makes historic legal victory

The High Court has ruled that the Jamaica Public Service exclusive all-island licence is not completely valid.

The court ruled that the aspect of the licence, which bars the Government from considering other applicants who want to supply electricity, is not valid.

The ruling has opened the way for other players in the energy industry to make an application to supply electricity.

This clearly opens the doors for competition in the supply of power to the Jamaican public.

how can any other company supply power to jamaica, when JPS owns all the power lines and poles across the island. that ruling will not reduce the cost of electricity.

But it will allow more companies to supply alternate energy - open up the market and maybe - just maybe - we can sell back power to the JPS grid.
We never know too much that we can't learn. Unfortunately most Jamaicans are about "hurry come up" and swatting than actually learning....

this is very good bcos as it is, if i have a big generating system it was illegal for me to sell my neighbor...... so the private companies can sell to who ever they want, they can run power lines etc...........

stop being a pessimist, this ruling open the door for us to challenge the status quo of governments. just as how it was suggested that the cellular companys share towers is the same way the poles can be shared.
