Default Problem with a Linksys M10 router

Someone had asked me to setup this router but I had issue with it.

    Its one of these....http://homestore.cisco.com/en-us/Rou...VVviewprod.htm

My issue is....I was able to use the thumb drive thing that came with it to run the setup on my laptop since it wouldnt work with a non-wireless system. The setup went as far as telling me it was complete, but wasnt receiving any internet.

I checked the Linksys page, and no IP was assigning to it. I reset the router...repeated the process....same issue.

The person bought it as a refurbished item. Dont know if this is the reason. I did the setup twice and got the same message. I should think 90% was successful.

Anyone had one of this and got it to work????

(I even tried watching youtube videos...nothing works....)

If you have an option to clone Mac address go ahead and enable it. Then power cycle the modem.

If you're trying to use the software to set up the router then don't. Some of the time the packaged software gives hassles.

Reset the router. Connect to it either wired (preferred) or wireless. Find the gateway using IPCONFIG from a command line or through your GUI. Steps are different based on your OS.

Once you have the gateway IP - throw that address into your browser to connect to the router. From there just configure it using the pages that are available. Set it to get IP automatically and whatnot. Also bear in mind that if is a FLOW modem you're using you'll have to reset the modem in order to get an IP on the new router. FLOW claim that the modems give 2 or 3 IP but I've seen it marry to one MAC and then won't release till it's reset. The option in the post above to "clone mac" will only work if the MAC that you're cloning is one that the FLOW modem had already assigned an IP to. If is a LIME modem then it shouldn't matter really.

If you still having issues then I'll go through the manual and give you some step by step procedures to follow. As usual you can contact me via PM and such and I'll try sort out the stuff for you.
We never know too much that we can't learn. Unfortunately most Jamaicans are about "hurry come up" and swatting than actually learning....
