I dual boot with Linux, so won't affect me, though I see it as just another propaganda scare tactic. Ever so often we hear about these kinds of mass threats, and they never seem to materialize.

Maybe you guys mis-understood. The affected persons would be end-users, not big corporate companies with websites. And if uncle joe internet went down because of this malware today, it wouldn't make CNN headline news.
From what I read, it was about 300k persons who still had the malware on their system that were going to be affected. News reports said ISP's have also been identifying and calling these affected users to alert them.
So it wasn't any end of the world scenario. Just a warning that needed to be heard.
EDIT: Here is an update: FBI Shuts Down DNSChanger Servers
As expected, the FBI today shut down the DNSChanger servers, potentially cutting off Internet access to those with infected PCs.
Despite the hysteria, however, security firm F-Secure said things appear to be under control, thanks to ISP intervention.
"Many global operators are keeping their #DNSChanger victims online, even after FBI stopped. We do not expect much noise about this today," F-Secure's Mikko Hypponen tweeted today.
