I don't really like the person avatar and knowing that it will be on his server. I'm getting great GPS lock on wifi but when I'm on the road using 4g or edge its not even showing the triangle

You can just pop open the gps.conf file change the ntp server and remove his server from the rest of the lists below. There are some extra ones there. Compare it to the original one on your phone to see the difference

    i got it to work

all i did was uninstall the Maps from the Market, restart the phone and then go back to Market, search for Maps and then choose Update

working with EDGE/3G/4G and Wi-Fi (wifi was working before, just not 2g/3g/4g)

(Please note that the maps itself was working all along and i could find anywhere i want. its just the GPS lock i was not getting when 2g/3g/4g was selected)

Thanks for the help guys even though i figured how to get it to work, just needed to reinstall the update (original Maps cannot be removed from phone but updates can)

i restarted my phone with WIFI disable, after phone start up i enable EDGE (2G) and go to maps, enable GPS and within couple seconds i got a 5 meter lock (outside in the back yard)

switched to 3G/4G (digicel) and its working same way, even after i disable ALL Data (No wifi/2g/3g/4g) the lock is still there and i can move around with it still showing my pointing direction and position on the map (i guess it will work without using data as long as i dont need to re-load any map layout as what is on the screen is cached in memory)

    emory)

It caches the local area to memory... if you want to save your maps offline go navigation and open the map menu or go directly to maps... while in maps hit the menu button and select "make available offline", select your area and confirm and let it download. You can now use the GPS in that area without data connection

Working flawlessly on the road today with the navigation going from Kingston to portmore... Very accurate to 5 meter accuracy
