Default One in five Macs carry malware

esearch from security company Sophos finds one in every five Mac computers carries malware.

After analyzing 100,000 Macs running the firm's free anti-virus software program, Sophos discovered several Apple computers carrying Windows malware.

Also, about 1 in 36 Macs were carrying malware specifically targeting the Mac OS X operating system.

"Some Mac users may be relieved that they are seven times more likely to have Windows viruses, spyware and Trojans on their Macs than Mac OS X-specific malware, but Mac malware is surprisingly commonly encountered," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos, in a statement.

Popularity certainly comes with a price. The days of macs being virus, malware and trojan free is coming to an end.

So true, Jah know...to see my precious OS-X become a commoner like Windows kinda hurts... Malware was always there for Macs, just not in abundance as with Windows. Oh Boy... I may soon have to invest in an Antivirus Solution for my MacBook Pro. Matters not still.... Macs are still the Best IMO.
