Default Samsung Confirms Galaxy S III Announcement Coming “First Half Of Year”

Samsung Confirms Galaxy S III Announcement Coming “First Half Of Year” At Dedicated Event

Any rumors, stories, tips, leaks or hints surrounding a Samsung Galaxy S III announcement at Mobile World Congress in the coming weeks can now be put to rest as TechRadar received a statement from Samsung directly pertaining to the launch of the Galaxy S III:

“Samsung is looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012.

The successor to the GALAXY S II smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product.

Samsung stays committed to providing the best possible mobile experiences for customers around the world.”
What’s truly interesting here is Samsung acknowledging the “delay” of a phone they never announced. In that regard, it’s not really a delay at all, it was our own set of expectations given that Samsung used last years Mobile World Congress to launch the uber-popular Galaxy S II. Furthermore, on January 27th, a statement by a Samsung representative during their earnings call stated that the company was “still reviewing several options” for launching their next flagship device. Given that, this quote from Samsung is hardly surprising.

There are a number of reasons we can consider for this decision by Samsung, the first being the still strong sales of the Galaxy S II and Samsung may not want to cannibalize those sales. The second consideration is that Samsung wants to delay the release to rival the next iPhone widely expected to launch over the Summer. The third and last possibility that we are considering is that Samsung is experiencing either a delay in manufacturing or is still deciding what internal hardware to use in the new device. Let’s also take note that Samsung’s current anti-Apple advertisements show they are still willing to push their current lineup and if they want a dedicated event to highlight their newest phone, who are we to complain?

Default Samsung Galaxy S III rumored to be landing in May with quad-core processor

The Samsung Galaxy S III may not be making the trip to Mobile World Congress later this month, but that doesn't mean that there won't be plenty of rumors concerning the device to keep us busy until the handset is finally unveiled. Today South Korean site Electronic Times News claims to have the goods on Samsung's upcoming flagship handset courtesy of some "industry sources." According to the report, the Galaxy S III is set to arrive in May with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and a body that measures 7mm thick, which is a drop of over a millimeter from the 8.49mm frame of the Galaxy S II. Other purported specs of the GSIII include a Super AMOLED Plus display, quad-core processor, 8-megapixel rear camera (that may protrude a bit from the phone's backside), 2-megapixel shooter around front and LTE connectivity.

But wait, the Galaxy rumors don't stop there! ETNews continues by claiming that Samsung is prepping some Galaxy S III variants that'll come after the main model. These new handsets, the site says, may pack features like 3D cameras and pen input.

Many of the Galaxy S III specs alleged in today's report would make sense for a flagship smartphone in mid-2012, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the GSIII pack features like a quad-core processor and Ice Cream Sandwich whenever it debuts. Whether that happens in May or not is still up in the air, but Samsung has said that it plans to take the wraps off of the GSIII in the first half of the year, so May is definitely a possibility. What do you all make of today's rumor? Think you'd be interested in a Galaxy S III if it does indeed pack the features that this report claims it will?

Lightbulb Samsung Galaxy S III Thread [Place 4 Rumors & Confirmed Info]

We’re still waiting for Samsung to sort out their Galaxy S III launch announcement schedule, especially considering it’s not coming this week at Mobile World Congress. In the meantime, we’re getting word of some new specs courtesy of BGR, citing a “trust source” that the Galaxy S III will release in over 50 “markets” or “cities” simultaneously. That’s the first part of this story, the second part is the real meat of the BGR leak is that we’ll be seeing an oversized display measuring 4.8″. While BGR wasn’t told the type of display, earlier rumors have pointed to something with a ridiculous name along the lines of Super AMOLED Plus HD. That’s a mouthful.

The BGR rumor mill continues with the idea that the entire back of the upcoming Galaxy S III will be ceramic, and not the cheap, glossy plastic we got accustomed to with the Galaxy S II. Other specs rumored for the Galaxy S III still include 4G LTE, Android 4.0, a quad-core processor and more.

Lightbulb Rumor: Samsung Galaxy S III Specs Leak, Full HD Display In Tow?

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the second round of the Galaxy S III rumor mill game — behind door number one: more “exclusive” details from the folks at BGR.com. Having already reported that Samsung’s next flagship smartphone would launch simultaneously around the world, BGR is back with some “new” detailed specifications from their sources inside the halls at Samsung. So let’s get right to it:

    1.5GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor
4.8-inch “full HD” 1080p resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio display
    A 2-megapixel front-facing camera and an 8-megapixel rear camera
    Ceramic case
    4G LTE
    Android 4.0

They are details for certain, but it’s not very detailed. We’re still missing out on a lot of key launch information, including the “when” and “where.” We’re impressed that the Galaxy S III may have a Blu-Ray like display however, more important intel still remain elusive. Let’s hope Samsung doesn’t make us wait too long to find out the story.

Requested that they be joined to this already. Plus the aim is to centralize the location of the information, as more information will start to come up, hence having a central location that brings new and old threads together both rumors and confirmed, results in less threads.

The difference with this one is that this one is also the place for rumors (as stated in the title) so we can make up our own.

On a serious note though, I hope the phone isn't too thin or too smooth as I fear it would be too difficult for me to hold. My Nexus S keeps slipping out of my hand when its not in the hard-case.
