can't you just install google maps? I think they have a hard enough time selling nav systems in Jamaica

Buying a Nav system right now is a waste until they provide proper 3G/4G coverage in all areas of Jamaica.
Google Maps on my iPad2 gets useless the moment I drive outside of Kingston and lose reception intermittently.

On my iPad, I have to actually download the maps, so I need the connection speed (for Google Earth or Google Maps)

What does that have to do with this thread? We are talking about updating Apple's databases since iOS devices aren't navigation devices with built-in maps so large amounts of data will always need to be downloaded.

Zerodeth, are you walking (slowly) while using EDGE? For me, I need 3G for the maps to load fast enough while driving. The only time I could rely on EDGE is if I was using X-GPS that already has the maps downloaded.
