ok, but with the 9650 or the 9630 people said it gave problems with digicel network
iso im wondering if its the same situation with the 9930
also there is a discussion in another forum that makes me start doubting this whole world phone thing because they said that if its a t-mobile phone it wont work on digiceland im thinking how is that so if the phone is a quad band blackberry the debate was about the 9700 for att and the 9700 for tmobile
got three the other day with no known issues been using them for a month now
oh ok , cool, thanks much
u have any probs with data plans, and have u ever tried them for 3 g service
somone told me one of them didnt work well on 3g networks out here, at this moment i dont remember which of the two it was that the person mentioned. Im interested in purchasing one of these to go lime with so i was looking for someones 2 cents on the matter. is there anything i should worry about purchasing either of these phones for use on lime or any 3g network in jamaica for any matter.

The 9930 is CDMA based but does work on GSM. That means the most you will get is EDGE
The 9900 however will have the HSPDA bands, i.e. 3G. Same thing for the 9850 and 9860 (the 9850 won't work on the 3G bands out here)
The next thing to make sure is which carrier the phone is made for. All of these phones are advertised as "QUAD BAND" when really and truly they're not. The hardware can pick up all 4 bands, but once they're made for the specific carrier then certain bands are locked out. Unlocking the phone wont change this as its done via hardware and not software. The older BB's (9000 for example) used to be quad band once they were unlocked, but from the 9700 and newer there is NO WAY to change what bands they will work on.
The 3G band in JA is 850MHz (i think). The US networks that use these are AT&T and Rogers from Canada. T-Mobile will NOT WORK on our 3G bands (uses 2100 MHz. What some unscrupulous people do is to change the housing on the phone (removing the carrier name) and then sell it as a "factory unlocked phone".
The only way to know for sure if the phone will work or not is to go to the "about" page, called "About Device Versions" in the newer OS. You want to make sure the bands say "1,2,5,6" and NOT "1,4,8". These are the only phones that will work on the 3G networks out here. I learnt this the hard way after buying my 9700 online after it was advertised as "quad band" and i instead received an unlocked TMobile phone that couldnt work on any 3G network out here.
I know for a fact that the CDMA based phones will not work on 3G out here for any network, and i've heard that they can drop signal easy easy.
thanks for the reply, im not every versed on phones persay but the difference between edge and 3g on a blackberry out here, is that anything to really care about? because lets say 3g from lime, isnt that just more expensive anyway than just using standard edge for bbm and emails etc?
