    The answer was an hourglass and a sundial. Liquid was correct.

    Betty Botter had some butter,
    "But," she said, "this butter's bitter.
    If I bake this bitter butter,
    it would make my batter bitter.
    But a bit of better butter--
    that would make my batter better."

    So she bought a bit of butter,
    better than her bitter butter,
    and she baked it in her batter,
    and the batter was not bitter.
    So 'twas better Betty Botter
    bought a bit of better butter.

    kinda tongue twisty

    Don't cheat, guess as many as you can.

    1: Alive with out breath,
    as cold as death.
    Never thirsty,
    ever drinking.
    Dressed in armour,
    never clinking.

    2:

    A box without hinges, key or lid.
    But Golden treasure inside is hid ?

    3:

    This thing all things devours:
    Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
    Gnaws iron, bites steel;
    Grinds hard stones to meal;
    Slays king, ruins town,
    And beats high mountain down.

    4:

    It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
    Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt.
    It lies behind stars and under hills,
    And empty holes it fills.
    It comes first and follows after,
    Ends life, kills laughter.

    5:

    Voiceless it cries,
    Wingless flutters,
    Toothless bites,
    Mouthless mutters.

    Bonus points if you know where they are from !!!
