It's not the tablet version..... It is optimized for touchscreen devices but it is switchable between the normal Windows interface (with start button and taskbar) and the Metro UI that you see in the pic(which is more suited for tablets and other touchscreen devices)......

Don't know bout you guys but am sold! The cool thing about the Metro UI is that the tiles you see in the pic updates in realtime. So if say yu got a weather app stocked among the tiles, once the system is connected to the internet, the weather tile keeps updated and yu don't have to open the app to see the updates. The latest update is shown right from the tile.

well bro yes its an early build but there's already bunch a difference and it already better than win 7 from what i've seen, what i like most is the fact that its very compatible with win 7 software and devices unlike win 7 was with xp, the beta version is to be out in about the next 2 months and the rc build will be another 2 months behind(thats what i was told). the only thing about that build that i just posted is that it uses win 7 installer, you'd have to download the win 8 installer(which these guys dont want to share) in order to experience the OOBE while installing

I agree - Windows8 is a cover up ... and besides the Add on GUI, it really is still Windows7. What is history vault, just another attempt at Restore points? These tiles are just an evolution of the Gadgets that I never used. So just like gadgets, they better make it so I don't have to "pay" for them in RAM footprint/cpu overhead.

Businesses purchasing new non-touch laptops would have no use for their tablet OS. They better package different versions of Win8 without the touch overlay for those that don't want to waste resources. Besides that, I really see no problem with MS trying something new or evolutionary.

The Metro GUI is interchangeable. It can be disabled so that you can use the usual GUI if you don't have touch input....... And it is way better than the gadgets caz they update more regularly and give you live previews........ [edit] Oh! Remember Win8 is not even at beta stage yet, so yu might see a totally different OS from what yu see now in the Milestone.

History Vault is more like Mac's Time Machine, its different from the same old system restore in fact system restore is separate component from the History Vault

I won't lie, its a improve version of windows 7, its able to run faster and more legacy software are able to run, they did a lot of work to the kernel even copying files seems faster

Based on my understanding and a friend experience, its the same OS that run on the desktop, runs on the tablet. The Operating system just detects the environment. He hasn't tested if the Immersive GUI works on the desktop

Alot of Kernel changes is expected when it reaches the Beta Stages, so far what i've seen is only M3 (Milestone 3)

The GUI on tablets is known as Immersive GUI and the default Windows 8 on desktops is Metro UI even though some elements of the Metro is found on the Tablet PCs as well
