What's nice is that a phone like this definitely appeals to me. I'm a diehard lover of the Bold 9700 form factor. This phone is now on my watch list as a possible procurement should in case cheap unlimited data plans become available in Jamaica. I most certainly would purchase this phone. I absolutely LOVE IT!!! The more I look at it, is the more I am tempted to order one on amazon.com My only gripe is the screen. In todays day and age I NEEEEED A HIGHER RESOLUTION SCREEN. Come again HTC... I so disgusted with the screen resolution now that I see it. Even RIM giving us more screen real estate with the upcoming BB Dakota. HTC is on good path here. This looks they are gearing up to compete for some die hard BB addicts like myself who just absolutely LOVE the BB Bold Form Factor.

Any higher resolution on that screen and you cant see. Remember its a 2.6 inch screen with 480 x 320.

Any higher resolution on that screen and you cant see. Remember its a 2.6 inch screen with 480 x 320.Which is why all that wasted space for the keypad, below the keypad and above the keypad could have been condensed to make the screen physically bigger by as much as one more inch. Not to mention the wasted space between the keys. Just look at the BB 9700 keyboard as a prime example. Nicely compact. These developers sometimes lack true innovation. HTC could have delivered a much better screen from what I am seeing. Non the less its a good attempt. Let's see what the successor will look like. I'm talking about a ChaCha II already dang!!

it is smaller than this. the bold is 2.44 inces, this is 2.6Do a search in previous posts about the Bold and you will see where I cussed royally about the screen real estate. I disgust the screen on the Bold 9700 even so the 9780 which makes the 9780 a FEEBLE attempt for an upgrade. I Hate the ALL THE SCREENS ON ALL BB MODELS. BB Screens are less than mediocre. Please lets keep this objective. Don't make presumptions when reasoning with me. Thank you Sir :D now back to the topic, Don't you see my point about the wasted space on the Cha. HTC have managed to waste precious space on this unit rendering the screen too small. But it matters not to me still. If the device is made available and data plans come for it locally I most certainly would consider buying one.
EDIT: You change the tone of your post with the edit PEZZ...now you force me to change my tone as well

I have never praised the BB screen. If you see me praising a BB screen, please put the post in proper context in relation to the topic being discussed. BB don't have any screen worthy of praise. reason why i say this is because HTC is behind now when it is coming to powerhouse phones which should NOT be happening! - i watched this review by suzan chu on CNET.com where she reviewd the inspire 4G and the Incredible S stating that it will be the 2 best phones HTC come out with untill late this year and as a result, its expected that they will lag behind other android manufacturers in sales for the summer despite the appealing price.
now personally this hurts because i LOVE HTC phones since day 1 with the AT&T 8525 and to hear that other companies will be leaving HTC in the dust is depressing! Check it yo, Motorola has the Atrix, Samsung has the SGSII, LG has the Optimus 2X and the optimus 3D and Sony Ericcson has the Xperia Lineup, all of which have a "wow" factor that amazes draws the crowd. apart from price, the inspire 4g has no wow factor. Its even reflected here! Ask anyone from the android community which phone they drool ova and they're goin to say either atrix, Xperia series, the Optimus line or SGSII.. well, mostly SGSII.
in conclusion to this part, ask yourself, what has HTC done that is NEW? their best phone out now is only slightly better than my phone which was made in January 2010!! meaning a whole year has past and there is nothing significantly better between last year's and this year's lineup! need better from the company of the year man!!
now back to the Cha-Cha...
now dont get me wrong - its good that they're trying to appeal to all markets but ask urself - is the cha-cha REALLY good enough to convert people from any BB to HTC Android? answer is - NO!! it ma have the form factor which BB Fans love but it lacks the main reason for buy BB's (BBS/BBM) and it has android OS on it which makes it worst cuz android is far more complex than BBOS and as such, coming from any BB to a Cha-cha, you would haffi LEARN a good amount of things about the phone and the OS to get the best out of it! sadly, most BB owners prob wont care to learn about things like A2SD, EXT3/4 Partitioning, or ClockworkMod Recovery (which 2 me are fundamentals if u ever goin own an android phone) as a matter of fact - they'd drop dead if they saw their phone booting into a CLI!!! and as such, would drop it and go back to the simple life of Blackberry.
im jus saying that HTC should have noticed that Motorola has been trying the same thing since last year with the droid pro and other phones with not much success cuz at the end of the day, no1 who's a die-hard, brand-loyal BB owner (which is a good chunk of the world's population) goin ever jump ship for these type of phones.. they will just laugh and say "cheap BB knockoffs". I mean, does anyone here who's brand loyal to bb care about these phones or that it has facebook integrated? no - cuz BB is FAR more integrated with facebook than android would ever be worldwide and that is a fact.
thats why i dont care for BB clones like the chacha or the droid pro - they dont do anything but try and appeal to a market that is devoted to the death to another company!

u still dont get my point *sigh - prob cuz didnt read the post fully..
i have 2 lines of argument..
1 - HTC needs to diversify in all scales and make a new powerhouse with specs and other wow elements that rival other companies instead of focusing only on low-scale phones. HTC needs to focus on what makes them truely fantastic.. by making at least one smart phone that combine sleek design with hardcore specs and the latest android operating system (which is kinda like what samsung and motorola are doing right now) cuz at the end of the day, no one is "wowed" by HTC's latest phones
2 - the Chacha is just a cheap BB Bold mimic with android and no worldwide data service. its not that BB is more integrated with FB than android.. its because HTC is making a phone that looks like another phone but lacks the same social networking capability which makes the other phone famous! that is like making a blackberry phone with facebook and no blackberry service. sure its nice they made a more optimize sense UI but really and truely, people who are apart of the social networking target market would prefer to spend 300US and get a bold 3 rather than spend 200US and get the Cha-cha! im sure u've heard of the Kin series microsoft made?.. well the chacha is no different! some people will think its nice but BB still beats it so no one would give this phone the time of day

Htc dont need to make a highend spec phone.
There is market for lowend aswell. A bb does not beat this. As the chacha will have more functiionality, while bbs functionality is killed by bbos.
A female would def take one of these over a desire hd. Not because you arent impressed, means no one is impressed.

So any phone that has a keyboard mimics bb now? How is this looking like a bb btw? I dont see it. What can a bb do that this wont be able to do, use bbm? Now answer what will the chacha be able to do with gingerbread?

first off - in today's market its inefficient to target 1 sector of the population and leave another high and dry - look at SE's lineup - they got games for the gamers, pro for the messengers, and the arc&neo for general.. now THAT is targeting a diverse market! it seems for the past year HTC have been making the same phones over and over, mostly mid-lowrange phones without any serious improvement which to me isnt something to be praised. they need to make a phone for ALL markets with significant improvements over yester-year's phones! let me ask u pezz.. what is the difference in terms of capabilities between the wildfire and the wildfire S? the aria and the gratia? i none.. really, my complaint is that i want something NEW - not rehashes
the reason why i say it mimics the blackberry is because it is designed as a social networking phone with a full qwerty - which to anyone is instantly identified as - blackberry.. the e63 and e71 have a full qwerty but isnt considered a social networking phone so as such - not a bb clone (as a mtter of fact - i think the designs for BB's phones came off of nokia's qwerty keyboarded - pro phones). im jus saying that the chacha might end up just like the droid pro or the kin - another attempt to capitalise on a market that will be dismissive
in a first world country the chacha would prob have capabilities on par with a BB YES but here in jamaica an in other third world countries where there are no data plans - the chacha's social networking capabilities are handy-capped. yeah its an android and as such it can do what all androids do - but android is something quite technical that may turn off alot of fickle users.. expecially girls who only care about chit-chat on some sort of messenger.
@ cultus - erm, i just said something bad about android.. its technical and scares simple users away.. most people who own an android know its faults.. its occasional FC's, its technicalities, a non standard framework which makes troubleshooting in many cases tedious across different platforms(but what do you expect if its more or less 6 different companies using the same OS.. its the same thing with symbian)

Your initial premise for the above quote is flawed.
The BlackBerry was not designed as a social networking phone.
First and foremost the BlackBerry is designed to be an integrated business organizer and communication device.
Social networking is ride along fringe benefit.
Take into consideration that RIM also provide a service along with the BB in the form of BIS and BES, without which you "cant do much".
Both BIS and BES are services that are predominantly geared to professionals at both the corporate and individual level.
BIS and BES are not social networking infrastructures. They are merely capable of facilitating it.
That is RIMS true target market. We the regular folk are just hopping on for the ride.

And this point people need to get with. Over the years people have hopped on the bandwagon pimping the BB network as if it is Facebook or something.
Over the years...RIM has realized the trend and made aim towards but at the core the BB was never created for that.

That's why we in the Caribbean love RIM so much (speaking for the masses) RIM actually values our input. Unlike HTC and SONY. All the more reason the BlackBerry Like Digicel is running rampant in the Caribbean :D:D and is not likely to change anytime soon. So to hell with the ChaCha and all Android devices. Keep them in the US. The few nerds like Techno who use them here wont have any significant impact on the Caribbean market, so they all can go form a group and go ballistic amongst themselves. We in BlackBerry world need no such groupies. We already have BBM and BIS..... "Now Subjectivity Aside"
I still love the HTC ChaCha's form factor. HTC may be on to something here. It might not appeal to the Jamaican Nerd's taste bud, but this device does have potential in other markets.

How does rim values your input? Seriously asking lol
I doubt these phones will get the nerds. I can only see females using them.
I will surely get one if its $250 or under.

When was htc ever on top? They were always in between with cost/performance.

they were on top with the nexus 1, evo 4g and the hero in their respective times (EXPECIALLY THE NEXUS).. remember pezz - the nexus was considered the standard for android powered phones when moto was coming out wid milestone 1's and samsung had "Galaxies" no Galaxy S's
everyone was amazed that it was among the first 1ghz processor phones with 512MB of memory and a 5MP camera with LED flash. i know all now not many phones can live up to the hype of the nexus. as a matter of fact -the nexus still remains one of the most customizable and XDA favoured phones. thats why HTC still bringing the nexus 1 and dropping gingerbread on it! everyone loves the Nexus even up to this date

And this is another reason why am a little hesitant to buy another of their phones after I tried the Aria, especially the non-US versions without local 3G. They are boring. And though people praise sense UI and it's great...I somehow prefer the Samsung skin it pops more to me.
The Infuse 4G is out...one big metal slab...just not grabbing me. My next Android will be Sony Ericsson (pick up where I left off with X10), Samsung or Motorola (bwoy that finger print reader on the Atrix has be sold!).

technoboy is 1 of the persons i expected to say this among others - thus proving my point. frankly i dont care if it is a slab - but as long as it has something about it that makes it amazing in the market - something that stands out above other things.. that is what makes most people want 2 buy a phone. its not only about the processor or ram.. but it has 2 have something that grabs u or separating it from the rest - like the docking capabilities of the atrix or the 3D of the LG optimus, or the gaming controls of the Xperia Play. i'd get an inspire 4G as an upgrade but really and truely, outside of price im not attracted to it.

Why and how can you speak for the world? I am sure if this was a fact I would share the same view.
The design of this phone grabs me, I would surely buy one as a secondary phone or a gift for someone.
In all honesty i was surprised when i saw the design. Looks really good to me.
Just the same as I would never buy a captivate. it is fine for techno though.

Just a correction...the Infuse is a Samsung phone bound for AT&T...I meant to say the HTC Inspire for the same carrier is the metal slab! Damn these names! :icon_lol:
