legit windows xpsp3 / amd system 2.8ghz / 2gig ddr2 800 / ati 3870...
aight ...........
my pc is going through some midlife/oldage crisis or duppy den pon it:
Friday morning:
so a few days ago i realised my dvd drive stop read/write (pc still detects it though)... swaps it out for another dvd drive
Also zonealarm fw offered an update for so compatilibity with AVG av users.. i did install it/
ran a defrag... was due
so:
Friday afternoon: I was playing Black Ops, and all of a sudden my pc screams out.... sounding like a stun grenade/ringing sound .... but really loud and it was not the game , the kinndi fast beeping sound like when the keyboard buttons are stuck but faster. .. (wierd enuff right but wait; theres more)..... and the screen flickers and turns white........... ( aigth str8 scary now)
i hit the restart button and the pc attempts to restart but the POSt screen looks wierd after the 4th or so line it gets jummbly no hdd info no memory info just odd fraction of text. ......... ( so u think it gone crazy too, right).
I like nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! the mobo or vidcard/hdd dead ........
so i hit the power button and restart .......it posts and boots and right b4 the login screen the BSOD ( carnt remember message).
I restart again ( yes i'm stubborn like that) nttn happens .....no beep no picture......... so i begin to wonder how am i goignt o ge tthe pc to fit in the garbage bin...
I opened her up and resaeted video card and memory.restarted .....nttn still. I them cleared the CMOs
restarted sure enuf it beeped .... and posted and booted and took forever to load but eventually it reached the log in screen (yeah the is life)
but what caused this to happen ... ? still dunno
so i removed the dvd drive... remove the drivers, restarted ....still slow as hell
I rebooted again, bsod right after login.
rebooted in safe mode, logged in ...working....
rebooted normally ... wondering if it was the avg/zomealarm issue ......... uninstalled ZA , still slow .
rebooted normally tried to uninstall AVG ..failed
rebooted in SafeMode as admin.. ran the uninstall for avg.. there was warning thing during install, saying summin about this user limit for uninstal avg and not all can be rmoved.... i ran it still
i rebooted, slow as hell still ....... like a few months ago when i was temp using ddr 533... but sure enuff i logged in and avg stuff was still there .
.........went to bed

Saturday :
I started up and while loading the pc bsod, restated nttn, no beep nttn , did the cmos clear and restated .....
working but still slow slow slow it takes several minutes to be completely ready to use.
Kiss teeth right......... i r stubborn, born that way.
anyway i decided to install avg , got the repair option .. it worked.
restarted loaded, logged in still slow , i noticed the MS warning that AVg is out dated,m i tried to update.... only to realize that some of AVcomponents empty, only the linkscanner and a few other are tere, the main components are missing.....
now every time in try to uninstall/install AVG I get an error message right b4 completion.... always some msi.exe error . ( soorn get a screen shot)
oddly Zone alarm installed smoothly....
Pc still slow as hell (& GRIM lol'n at me)
went to party in the evening ....... came home pc still slow , even reinstalled amd catalysis drivers
Sunday morning pc still slow ... even chrome crashing ......
k so i tried installed somethign else and got the msi.exe installed error.....
but oddly another app using the mis installer ran smoothly....... so wtf?
but system feels a little better, stll slow but no crashes/ freezes a but still slow..
I tried running a system restore, ......... i have restore point from thursday .yeah...
chu....(expletives) SYTEM RESTORE FAIL. it was unable to carry out he restor from that chosen point, pllz try another restore point....... ( pointless in my case) .... no changes were made..
I have given up on avg /mis installer at this point and installed AVASt ... installed smoothly
except for a totally format... can't affort a total hardware update just as yet... . what else can i try ( yes i tried prayer and thinking about paying the monkey in St.Thomas a visti)
i guess i prolly have to just get a now hdd in the interim and back up and/or prolly drop win 7 on it

Check the memory sticks if any of them have dislodged or not seated properly. Do a memory test.

oh i forgot i getting the ati2dvga BSOD , began getting it since i updated to ati catalysis 10.10 . I was really a problem like once every few days . i did a clean driver/ati removal and updated the driver to 10.11 , same think and , the same thign for 10.12 ( on ati/amd site alot of ppl started getting the ati2dvag bsod since 10.12 driver was released.
but since my epic crash on friday .It happens often some time one a day sometimes 4 times a day. I have once again removed all trace of ati drivers/catylist software and just use the standard microsoft drivers........ still slow and i got 2 crashes one was a ati2dvag bsod.
removed the card all together and still the same slow crap.... utterly slow
but since th

Try using revo uninstaller to uninstall avg and see if that helps

Dude, you keep saying you get a BSOD but didn't state the error that came up with it. The error messages isn't for decorations you know. They really do give an indication on what might be wrong. You can use Blue Screen View (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html) to see what the BSOD error messages were.
I would have recommended you find out what slowing your pc down before re-installing more crap software unto a limping pc.
AVG has always given problems uninstalling, so much so, they provide an uninstaller in case it won't uninstall. http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools
But then you installed another AV on top of a half working/half uninstalled AVG.
So basically instead of putting out a possible fire, you threw more crap stuff into the fire in hopes it will smother it and put it out, but really it is burning the stuff underneath while it seems ok to you on the top.
Oh what a mess. smh lol

Why not do a windows repair by booting from the XP CD? (then selecting the repair option)?

and have dont several scandisk
booting from xp cd but the 2nd repair option does not come up
This means that you need to boot from the XP CD and go to the recovery console and run a "CHKDSK /R" and "CHKDSK /P" to repair the corrupted installation. This is much different from a scandisk in Windows.

sry didnt realise was at work so just read 1st page an replied..
u can run a memory test and everything appears to be normal when infact u have faulty memory or other hardware...
try downloading everest and stress test major components to rule out a hardware prob..ntn beats a trial bro
open everest navigate to tools -system stability test
as shown below-didnt hav time to crop screenshot...included a link for everest below

Btw when u start stress testing it might be wise to close any program u have running caz its gona take ur cpu usage from idle to the cap 100%...jus sayin
usually when im working on a machine and it has a memory prob thats not detected thru memory test the stability test detects it and the usual results is a change in the pattern or even crashes while performing that test

well .... i got lazy and fed up and unplugged the cpu and threw it in the garbage ( grim is happy now)
no wait i didnt i got lazy and fed up:
it was still slow, so I ran the chkdsk /r & p again it found errors this time and fixed them
.... k now i'm getting somewhere
i restarted ....still slow ... i remembered i had and old hdd in limbo (my junkbox). so i said might as well i start backing up.
i ran one more chkdsk and it now said .. error un fixable (paraphrasing). oh well too late fi sprinkle it wid cream soda, but not for monkey wining ;) - saddly i could not make it to St.thomas
.but .. .
I formatted the old hdd and dropped on windows 7 (legit of course)
so smooth, another hdd , still smooth........ then i connected the hdd that was/is spazzing out... it boothed and worked.
untill i restarted ......started to post & at the detecting the hdd section it 'argged u'p the other working hdd was detected but the name was jumble/cryptic/crap . and an imminet hdd failure warning came up on screen.....
so i'm like WTF : the spazz hdd killed the good hdd, wondering if it mess the the windows 7 hdd as well.....
relax it didnt
i disconnected the spazz drive and rebooted ... pc works flawlwssly....... so it is that spazz hdd ( well that partition anyway)
cus i r just so darn stuborn. i shut down , connected back the spazz hdd, reboothed, no post issued , but windows did run its chdkdsk and found 7 fixed issues... windows 7 started back up and the pc ran smooth. untill i tried to access files on the spazz drive
the spazz drive had two partitions ... the former primary drive (with windows xp) and a storage drive. well the stroage drive gave me no issue , but the primary drive it took 4ever and that was after windows7 asked me for security/admin permission a few times
......... then that drive just dissapered off the screen..... poof gone...
k.......... i can't believe u r stil reading this, u need a life too
so ... i restrted , win7 did the chkdsk found & fix errors upon the next 3 restarts....... all seemed good. i went to sleep
turned on the pc the next morning........ the drive was missing from the my computer.. here we go again..smdh
so i shut down, changed the sata (a 3rd time now). dropped in my windows XP disk and ran the chkdsh.. found and said unfixable .......restarted and didit it again found and this time FIXED , restarted found and fixed again... restarted and then it found no errors, restarted again ran chkdsk = found no serrors .....
[are u awake ?]
dropped in my minixp disk , backed my a few files ( saddly the hdd that that the windows7 is on now is way too small to back up every thing. but i intend to replace it soon)
i restarted .......... to windows 7 , it did the chkdsk found errors an fixed it... restarted. the pc rans smoothly files on the spazz drive are accessable and ok
so this is my third or fourth day on win7 and no issues with that hdd / partition...no what so ever .no spazz from it. [X's fingers]
several scan and chkdsk and hdd ware tools give it a thumbsup !
i just need to get a fatsize hdd now to replace these two (no seagates though)
i guess it was some partiton/software issues ...
[ if u are still awake, u can stop reading now and get back to ur life.]
as for windows7 9home premium). i do not like it. .. too many of the apps i like are not supported in win7 [hiss teet]
tnx every one
