For those who haven't seen this as yet, here you go. Until it has been announced by AMD, this should be treated as a rumor and nothing more.

If this is actually true, I hope it causes the cost of other GPUs to fall.:eusa_pray

The thing is.
The 6850/6870 will replace 5750/5770. 69xx will replace 5850/5870. I dont know what amd is doing, but lets see.

Can't see why they should be intimidated, AMD has the ability to provide fantastic bang for buck if needs be, nvidia has only now got a clue that the major segment of the market is driven by value.

Well seeing that the 6870(6770 in diquise) is faster than a 5870 there really shouldnt be a problem. the 6770 get 2.5k more in vantage xtreme than a 5870.
i think amd is doing this to maintain prices, because nvidia is on a fail streak.

the nvidia gtx line is a complete failure, with exception to the gtx 460.

This is getting confusing star. Just have to wait till official release but what is sure is that the "slower" version of the new cards will be out first.
Some interesting stuff seems to be ahead.

I think this is a reaction to Something that Nvidia is about to come out with OR Ati/amd geniunely have found a much much cheaper way to manufacture the cards and even give us twice the speed and will just sell us these 68xx at roughly half the price per performance. Because essentially, they just want to either
A. maintain performance crown, OR
B. make more profit from the now cheaper to manufacture (but still twice as fast) 6000 series.

Its not confusing. The 6870/6850 will be faster than a 5870/5850. just not by much like we normally get.

I think Amd wants to charge more for the performance they offer.
