So is it free online? once i have the game or do i have to pay a monthly fee cuz i could get it to borrow, but it doesn't make sense if i have to pay a monthly charge.

No it's not free. You gotta pay up.
I was interested in it. Thought they would allow me to check it out before paying. But alas, that was not so.

Didn't say it was a monthly payment. Just said you have to pay to play.
Here the site: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com
Payment options: http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowbilling/?id=abl01026p
If you don't pay for it online, you can buy some game card for about $2000 that will give you 2 months of game play.
Why is there a subscription fee? http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowbilling/?id=abl01684p
Maintaining World of Warcraft’s high level of service does require a monthly subscription fee, but comparatively speaking, we are able to deliver this level of service for less than the average cost of a couple of monthly trips to the movies. And whereas 2 movies might provide up to 6 hours of entertainment, World of Warcraft can be accessed up to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
So yeah you're right, it does require a monthly fee. I'm sure they allow you to pay for up to 6 months or a year. Or maybe just bill you automatically each month.

So couldn't someone make their own personal server for the game, where ppl who they want to play could login and play for free once they own the game. huh, cuz it does look fun

They wouldn't make any money that way samu. Instead of each of your friends paying to play the game monthly, you have 1 of your friends buy the game and all of you get to play it for free. And each of you could call all of your friends and have a huge player base.
The company would lose big for all the time and money spent in developing the game.

I see your point, well maybe when the game is worn out and has stopped making money then some one could do that, then again who'd want to play an out-dated mmorpg, haha, oh well, cool

OMG!! Gentlemen and Ladies, how can you call yourselves gamers when you have difficulties recognising the best MMORPG ever created? WoW was one of the most antisipated games of all time. It whent platnum before it whent beta. Every thing that everquest, asherons call and ultima did wrong, blizzard has made right. last news i got was that sales for WoW has been halted because all servers are filled to capacity.
"insane" is an understatement, the game rocks to high heaven and back, recognise.
