I have come across this site that provide the entire bible in mp3(in various version kjv, nev etc.) FREELY avaliable for download. Could be used as a good aid in your bible studies(if you are into bible studies).
When burned:
* Take up around 50 CDs (wave format)
* 3 CDs mp3 format ( if you have an mp3 player)
You may need to convert it to stereo before burning but fairly good quality non the less 8)

N.B. NOT FOR COMMERCIAL USE so don't burn them and sell them, give them away free.
One observation- the narrator while reading the last part of the old testament tends to read a bit too fast.

As far as i know this person is the only one giving away this stuff for free, i wonder why given this is the BIBLE?

Do you know of one that is similar to the Laridian version for Pocket PC? I would much prefer the written text than an audio sample. What happens when you want to meditate on it and the guy is reading too fast and your own bible is too cumbersome to carry around? Do you know of a software bible like that? I really hate skipping pages to find a scripture reference. I much prefer point-n-click (or just point in the case of a PDA).

Note he only does this in the latter part of the old testament i.e. the last 8 or so books, as if he was in some what of a hurry to complete the project, in fact those where the last books to be posted online a few weeks ago so it might just be the case; however the remaining books of the old testament and the entire new testament was well done.
If you want to meditate on the words then you can pause and rewind it, i am sure you are aware of that but as you said you are not into the audio thing anyway.

As for the Laridian version for Pocket PC i'm not familiar with it but i did some research and it looks really good, a nice companion when doing bible studies and it makes it easy to find specific scriptures don't have to be skipping' away through the pages of the bible to find a passage. However only a few people have a Pocket pc. Anyway a friend of mine showed me a sofware (for Pc) like that which allows you to search for spcific scriptures but i can't remeber the name, nor did i check it out properly enough to see if was any good. Going to try and see if i can barrow it again and see.
People will find the bible in audio quite convenient, they can listen to it in their cd \ mp3 player while they work, drive their car to work in the morning or when or where ever they want.

Yeah, my dad uses the audio verion of the bible all the time. I just don't like reading aloud (whether me or someone else doing it) and I much prefer interactivity.

The Laridian Bible for pocketPC is pretty handy. It works just like a Thompson Chain Reference Bible - but with more HTML like links for scriptural cross references. I just wish I knew how to capture screenshots from the PPC to show you.

I'm trying to find a matching software for the PC. Unfortunately, I've yet to come across a really good one. All that I've seen so far are DOS programs or those with a poor interface. I understand there is a similar program available for the Playstation 2 and the XBOX. No confirmation on that one yet though.

Hey DarkAngel, many thanks for that link. I'll definitely give it a try.

I have and use iLumina (http://www.ilumina.com/), it's a digitally animated Bible and Encyclopedia Suite. Check it out as well.

I have a software called DeskTop Bible from Compuworks on CD. It's not DOS based. The user interface is pretty good. You are able to search the entire bible and scroll throw each chapter, etc. It has colorful maps that show you the journey of some of the prophets. Also shows the time line of events in the Bible.

We bought it from Courts looong time ago when courts just started to sell computers and software.

Only place I found it on the net is here: http://www.softwarecheaper.com/product1015.html

Also have another program called "The Best of Bible Study and Games" which has quite a few bible related games that tests your knowledge of the bible. Really cool. :)

I'll add something then by saying that this isn't practical (in all environments), as the message may be lost due to several mis-pronounciations to specific keywords in the audio files.

There is a free Bible study software for Windows called e-Sword at http://www.e-sword.net. They have a Pocket PC version (http://www.e-sword.net/pocketpc).

You might also be interested in visiting Living Torrents at http://www.livingtorrents.com. Among other things, they have the KJV Bible in mp3 format (http://www.livingtorrents.com/torrents-details.php?id=193). The goal of Living Torrents is "to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world via Bittorrent... Our hope is also that this site will be a resource to anyone that wants an answer, Lord willing in the future we hope to host alot more material to better equip the Saints..."

I have the KJV Audio Bible, it's narrated voice not some robotic simulation so the sound clarity is great. I also have the java version on my phone.
