Can anyone access Digicel's website? www.digiceljamaica.com

I have been trying for a long time (over a year now) and have never been able to access thier site. I thought it was a connection problem from my end, but I know I'm not having a connection problem now. I thought maybe thier site wasn't up yet, but they publish the address in their newspaper ads so I know the site should be accessible. But I have never been able to access it. I always got a time out error.

Maybe it's an isp problem? Pinging the site I get 100% packet loss:
Pinging www.digiceljamaica.com [207.21.34.141] with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 207.21.34.141:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss), ???

I'm using N5 Chris. Here's the trace NeoTrace gave me:

NeoTrace Version 3.01 - TRIAL (December 20 2000) Trace Results
Target: www.digiceljamaica.com
Date: Fri Jun 06 22:43:38 2003
Nodes: 5

5 2 1 207.21.34.141 Unknown h21-34-141.dvc.edu

The connection drops at that last ip address.
I'm going to email n5 support and see what they have to say about it.

That makes me wonder, if you are having so much probs with n5. Should I even call to find out about their wireless solution? ??? That's a though, I better hold out and see what C&W is up to...

I wouldn't call this problem "so much". N5 has had it's share of problems, but they are tolerable and I am satisfied with thier service.

Out of a rating of 10 I give them a 8. And I have been with them for many many years.

I was considering thier wireless service, but they haven't come to my house yet to check the signal strength of thier wireless service. Don't know if they will ever come.

Thought i was the only one around here that found N5's dial-up service to be fairly good. 8)

Ropy, here's some info I got from N5 when I enquired about thier wireless service.

As stated in the previous Email the serivce is currently available in areas of Kingston, St.Andrew, St.Catherine and St.Mary.

For the Wireless High Speed Internet Access we will be offering speeds of 256Kbps Downstream and 128Kbps Upstream for the following price:

Monthly Service Cost
US$55 - Residential
US$120 - Business

Equipment cost
US$550 - Modem + Transceiver Antenna

All charges attract 15% GCT.

The equipment is also capable of doing speeds of 30Mbps on downloads, so there is enough headroom for growth if you require additional speeds.

Be reminded that with this option there is no need for a telephone line.

For payment plan options please visit our office at 19 Windsor Avenue, Kingston 5 or call (876) 978-3739

Our next phase of operation will be in St. James and we hope to have that done in next few months. We will then continue our roll out to cover the rest of the island.

Also do not forget to tell your friends using other systems about this.

An additional US$190 will be needed for the STV Set Top Box for video service. The Video service will cost US$30 per month. As a bundle you will save US$10 per month for service. US$25 for video and US$50 for High Speed Internet.

Thanks for your interest in our new High Speed Service. This email was from last year August. Don't how much more they have done since then, or if they have finished thier roll out.

But this thing about accessing digicel's site must be a N5 thing. I have emailed them(from Friday) but I haven't gotten a response from them yet.

After being in contact with N5 support, it seems I am only able to access digicels website using thier ip address: http://216.92.67.73/home/

It seems to be a problem with thier domain name.

Fi real Seanbee that $550 price tag is bit steep. Come to think of it, that can buy me and Athlon XP 2600 and Sony DVD burner plus change.

One of my uncles told me that they came and installed the equipments from last year, and it was very fast. He also mentioned to the during that storm sometime in November-December it stopped working. He has been calling since up to this date them noh come check on it. He also told me that they are using old equipments, and are low on cash...

These peeps are a bunch of nuts. After hearing that I will definately stay far from them.

It seems that either one of their DNS server(s) is breaking often, or an external router may be failing (maybe both). You may find that you're browsing all fine and well for a while then nothing works ("Connection refused", etc.). Most people usually disconnect/reconnect and find they are able to browse again, but that may just be the length of recovery time on a device/service restart.

When connections are crapping out again, try doing an "nslookup" of a popular website, such as CNN.COM or MSN.COM and see if the command has trouble determining the name/IP of the N5 DNS server, usually ska.n5.com.com or mento,n5.com.jm, I believe. If that's the case, the DNS server is probably faulty, otherwise it may be a router. For the latter, a "tracert -d" (Windows) or "traceroute" (linux/unix) of a known public IP address should tell you where exactly in the network your connection is dying.

I have experienced what you are talking about Razor. But my connection is ok and I'm browsing sites ok. It's just Digicel's domain I can't access (www.digiceljamaica.com)

But what's wierd is I just did an nslookup on www.digiceljamaica.com and the ip returned is [216.92.67.73]. But when I do a ping on www.digiceljamaica.com it pings the ip [207.21.34.141] which times out.

So there might be something amis with digicel's DNS servers. It's resolving thier domain name to the wrong ip address. They have 3 Domain servers:

DNS0.DIGICELJAMAICA.NET 208.138.37.4
GATEKEEPER.ROLET.COM 208.1.216.202
DNS2.DIGICELJAMAICA.NET 209.61.208.47

Myabe one of them is set up to the wrong address?

I will try and contact digicel see if they can help in resolving this.

N5 either has old Zone File entries or their Cacheing Name Servers are not reading the TTL (Time To Live) on the Zone File so it doesnt know that it should check for updates.
