At first I was going to say - DON'T LIGHT IT IN YOUR HAND! But then good sense prevailed and I realised you were talking about Dreamweaver's Fireworks MX :-[ ;D

What do you wish to know specifically? Fireworks is quite a powerful tool with so many uses. In fact, you can do the tutorials and learn quite a load in 15 minutes. What you must remember that it's a image processing tool for webpages - at least that's its primary purpose. It could double as a Photoshop alternative (but not equivalent). If you are however familiar with Photoshop, a lot of concepts and terms are quite similar. What makes Fireworks special is that you can create entire interactive webpages from mere pictures. Your imagination is the limit. However, you have to be a lot more specific in your questions or else no one might reply to your post. Fireworks can do so much! What do you really need to know? (this site is crawling with web experts) 8)

Oh yeah Fireworks is a pretty nice piece a software (especially for none designers like myself). All you need is a concept and you just build a site. Heres a my site I created it in Fireworks MX. It took me 25 days to complete it (in owen time) and plus the trial version would have expired so I had work fast. http://owensoft.net/v3/ version3 :) You can ask questions based on that if you want. It uses frames but that isn't really necessary.

k..first thing as Nastro said.. si that you need to be just a LITTLE more specific.. the second is this..

the basic setup is that both Fireworks and ImageReady (photoshop's version) uses the concepts of layers (images and webpage) and power of javascript to leverage against each other and produce some pretty hot stuff.. like owen's ite (pretty kool dude)

so what you get is the hybrid of an image editor and a web-page design tool... but Fireworks doesn't try to be either one well.. it simply tries to be the best of both. That said.. you'll find that every snippet of code it produces is embedded in a table.. or a web-layer (which is just a table on steroids).

best uses for fireworks/imageready

- animation
- image maps (includig rollovers of every sort)
- page layout

if either of these three are extremely important to you then you should have one o these apps running

my 2 cents

...umm, Nastro didn't say that. I did ;D. If you notice, Nastro has not even posted to this thread...

This reminds me of how the word Christian was formulated. The desciples hung out with Jesus so much, people mockingly called them Christ-like or Christ-ian because they talked/acted like him.

Since Nastro and I chat so frequently.... hmmm...... ::)

Perhaps? - lol

A Nastro-ian?

hhhmm I like the sound of that.

It is indeed a pleasure to be your role model Xeno. ;D

To the matter at hand.

DjKidd, based on your question I assume that its your first time using the software. The most we can tell you at this point is some of the things it does. It is when you start using Fireworks and need help in achieving a particular task, then shall we be in a better position to help.

If you have started more power to you. Let us know if what you want to do and we'll do our best to help.

- You're right! So don't mess up! Or else I'll have GodKid replace you! ;D

so i guess i'm still a grasshopper

- How many times do I have to tell you GodKid? Quit mixing up our roles like that! A Master and a grasshopper are two very different things! ;)

Anyways, why hasn't this yute posted his more specific question yet? I hope we haven't scared him off. Or worse yet, he might try to contact the Jamaica Computer Society..... lol ;D

DjKidd, if you're still reading this thread, direct your questions at owen, he's the expert (on everything). No seriously. He's pretty darn good at that stuff. Have you seen his site? :o He's 5th on Google!! :o 'Nuff said!

Hey, Google archives 1.8 billion pages from 800 million sites! To be 19th out of 18 million sez a LOT!
