If your fav. isn't listed, then just add it to a reply. For a concise listing of Linux distros, visit http://www.linux.org/dist/list.html

I have used Mandrake in the past and didn't really have a problem with it. Mandrake is packed with alot of programs, utilities, etc but I think i would give RedHat a star over Mandrake because of its popularity and stability (server-side)

If you want stability, then you're looking at debian. Striped down to the core and always uses a less-than-latest kernel, just to make sure they're building a stable distro.

I said redhat because , I know that when configuring applications to deploy on 400 servers, what you want most is compatability .
I should state that i tend to install the latest stable kernel and install my own perl postgresql and ssh and change the filesystem to one that is more appropriate for a server (Reiserfs + LVM).
So i guess the only way you will know that it is Redhat is because i never change "issue" :-)

If i had to build an infrastructure from scratch i would use debian apt-get is far better than rpm (though the next version of rpm will have better dep checking and resolution)

You can't fairly say that it's your favorite distro seeing as how you've never used it.
When some people have had a chance to evaluate it, we'll add it then.

Mandrake 9.0 is effectively the best GUI intensive distribution of Linux to date... Debian, unfortunately still sucks with install and administration.

My favorite is Mandrake 8.2. I have had a fewe problems wit it but I like that it has a myriad of GUI tools to tap into the power of the OS. It also comes with almost all the software you'll ever need. I can't wait to try 9. I just install Xandros and I think it will be good for the masses, but it does not give a lot of power to the power user in a GUI out of the box.

I like Redhat simply because they have a very supporg support base in the automatic package update. They have a team out checking thier packages for bugs and relaesing patches as soon as these bugs are found ;)
