Every 4 months in my opinion.

i didn't see my real option... at least once per month... so i chose at least once every 2 :D
Once the G.A.J. is up and running properly there'll be more more MORE!!!!

Every 4 months is good and it could be structured as an elimination tournament so the last 1 for the year is the championship finals

Good idea yogi, I like it...

The more often we have a specific tournament, the least appealing it would be to me.
While, if you have a tournament say, once a year to decide the best of the best, you build up anticipation. The guy who carries home the trophy would feel like he won something big.
Twice a year is great. Or if we can come up with a structured elimination thing as was suggested by yogi, that may work. I am just thinking that it wouldnt be everytime people from far out can make those pre-championship events. Work, families, other thing could prevent them from being at these events that often in a year. This may limit the amount that tunr out for the big bang.

i think we should have ongoing little parties.. culminating in a big event.. that way you get a bragging rights type o situation throughout the year.. and the man at the top of the rung get gunned for during the final round... it may also allow for some other intricacies....
the alternative i see is to have a couple servers running and game online and have stats and that kind o thing.. to kind o set the stage for the finals...

Every 4 month is my pick.
We can have LAN parties dedicated to certain games. So we can have a Quake/UT/Counter Strike only, and RA2/Generals/Tiberian Sun only etc. In this case there will be trophies for second place and other matches. Both are elimination mathces...

I agree. We should have Quake2 one day Red Alert on another. Or probably do it based on the game type. Shoot up shoot up (Quake) one day stratergy (AOE) on another.

I like the One Event Lan Party thingy.... sounds a lil bit of what happened in St. Anns Bay.
If we can do this successfuly, then we might think about extending the lan parties to two diff types of games.

I must agree with Matronyx, having a tournament too frequently would make the rewards less appealing. And comuting between is a problematic factor.
AS I see it I think we should try to setup a network whitch does't require accessing the internet. (such as a server that I would call into to play)
In this way we would be able to enco-operate what Yogi suggested which is a form of elimination. not only that but countless amuonts of practice and as another Tech Jamaican suggested have a competition against T & T. ;D 8)
Our Options as I see it.
1. Create a network that doesn't require internet to play.
2. Tweak our game options so that the game speed will not be affected over a 56 Kb conection.
3. One player from each region gets DSL connection and Players meet at there place when games are to be held.
4. Seek out internet cafe's within your region who have DSL and enquire if they would be interested in allowing game Play over there network at a reduced price.
Please feel free to make suggestions that may help in improving our current issue.

Are you suggesting we leave from 5 in the morning to arrive at a good time?? :o
What time would we leave kingston? It would have to be 8 pm the latest. It could work, but....
lets stick to the neutral grounds for a while eh.... St. Anns Bay. :)

In order for things to run smoothly next time we need to have better arrangment:
have adequate power plug spacing for easy setup
enough cabling and proper layout for quick setup
switches for fast gameplay
proper cooling
no external light (sunlight causes glare)
adequate spacing for when we arrive with out huge cases and monitors

yow... from what I gather LAN parties in the US usually take place in a kind of HQ that will allow for gamers to sleep over... the really big ones have deals with near-by hotels... we'd have to work something out, cuz we kingstonians face the same prob as the montegonians
wheelman

Usually a large room and in some cases and auditorium of some kind with lots of flat space and they setup cabling, servers, registration, tables and everything else weeks in advance.

For Future tournaments prices could be negotiated with the Villas within the area, i.e. if players are interested.

Villas, hhmm. That is a good idea linval.
As the time approaches, gather some more information and let us know what the deal is.

I'm sure that they would be willing to accept $1000 per person for a day.

How is St. Ann's bay Neutral? It's far closer to Montego Bay than Kingston. I've also noticed that a rather unfairly large number of you guys are not from Kingston (that in itself is rather fascinating as far as techies go :D). While I don't blame you for having it in St. Ann's Bay, that only leaves GodKid, CKnight and myself out of the luau.
Even if you have the next tourny in Spanish Town (Linval has links down that side doesn't he?) I could bring some of my brejins (and a few consultants) from my office to join in on the bloodfest. A few of them actually LIVE in Spanish Town. The more the merrier right? They're pretty good and I'm sure they'd give you folks a run for your money. It's really, really difficult for us to get out to St. Ann's Bay.
I for one I'm not very receptive to long winding rides through the J'can countryside. By the time I get there, I'll be so disoriented, I won't be any good in the tournament anyway :'(. C'mon fellas. Something closer to Kingston this time.
Oh btw: It's spelled t-w-e-a-k and e-l-i-m-i-n-a-t-e
For a second I thought you guys were talking about bird noises (tweek) and shining light on something (illiminate - close to illuminate), respectively. ;D
So whad'ya say? Spanish Town?
matronyx
June 11, 2003, 10:53 AM
Ok....let us look at the map a lil more closely. Spanish_Town == ST;
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/mapimages/caribbean/jamaica/jamaica.gif
Can we come up with something MORE neutral thanST? It is hard too for us guys to travel from Mobay to ST, besides...if any of us guys from the North Coast going to journy to ST, then it makes sense to just go to Kingston.

I think it should be alternated.
Also what's a good center point destination that we can use for the LAN Party?
And on one hand it maybe better for the larger group to travel the furthest becuase that ensure safety in a convoy when returning home as opposed to a few persons travelling a far distance and encountering problems along the way.
By the way Matronyx...where is St. Anns Bay on the map?

Ok,... how much is Xeno paying you bub??!!!
Yeah, you are right, we could alternate the locations for the events. Just remember though that wherever we go need to have food, drinks (water), more food, good ventilation (preferably AC since machines get hot), even more food.
Did I mention food? :)

hhhmm..... Xeno...ST is definetely not neutral.
Thanks for the visual perspective on things.
FOOD is definetely a must Tronyx...but what about the drinks hello.....???

Correction: ST was not suggested as a central point Nastro. As owen said, it's more a suggestion towards alternation. Hence why I said "closer to kingston this time"
And don't worry about how much I'm paying owen. You guys can't make him a better price 8)....................I'm kidding, but I like your thinking Matronyx... ;D

One of the neatest things at my fingertips at St. Anns Bay was the coffe machine they had. I dropped in $20.00 ... select from amongst the diff flavors... vanilla, cappacino,... u name it...
i was drinking coffe just cause it was there. Sure .... we deffinatle can't forget the liquids.
Maybe the next location will have two of those machines??? one for sodas. ;D

How can ST be for St. Ann?
Wouldn't it be more appropriate if you said SA?
Don't you think ST is closer to Spanish Town?
How about a poll?
