Has anyone played games online with there PS2 or XBOX? If so, what has the experience been like? I'm considering getting the new reduced ADSL package from C&W and am toying with the idea of getting the network adapter for my PS2. I want to know if it is worth it. Do you have to pay some subscription fee to play online with console games?

Sony recommends at least a 512kbps connection for online gaming, so I don't know if the 128k package from C&W would be the right choice. Not sure about the subscription, but it's very likely, at least for the better games.

Ok. Last week I got my PS2 broadband adaptor and SOCOM 2 US Navy Seals. :D

Now after installing the adaptor, setting up IP address info with the adaptor's setup CD, and configuring my DSL router to forward the necessary ports for connectivity, I went online with EA Fight Night 2004. I'm using C&W's 128K download package (the basic one). The first fight I had, didn't look too bad. It was a bit choppy, but I did notice that my opponent seemed to know every move I was making before I finished making it. Needless to say, I got knocked out something awful. The second fight I had was horrible. The voice chat worked fine but the gameplay was slow. I won the fight, but it wasn't that fun.

Next up was SOCOM 2 Us Navy Seals. Now that was fun! :eusa_clap
No slowdown, no choppiness, everything ran smooth and sweet. 16 players in a map, and it was sweeeeet! :D I was sniping guys with head shots, running up on them wid mi heckla n' kotch, and sending them flying with grenades.
Sweeeet. SOCOM 2 is a year old, but it sweeet still.

Online play with PS2 has been free so far - unlike XBOX live, which is a subscription service.

I may need to upgrade my broadband for some of the heavy games like Fight Night2004, but for now, SOCOM2 will keep me happy until I can justify the extra dough. :p

I don't think SOCOM2 is on PC. I think it's a PS2 exclusive. It's about a year old - came out in 2003. Rather than re-invent the wheel, check out the reviews here (http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/socom2/review.html) and here (http://ps2.ign.com/articles/457/457886p1.html) .

I've never played counterstrike before, but I imagine this would be the console equivalent. It's Seals vs. Terrorists. The maps are quite good. I've seen urban combat, snowscape, complexes etc. Game types are suppression (run and gun), breach (you gotta invade enemy stronghold), demolition (blow up enemy base), escort (escort hostages to safety), and extraction (find and rescue hostages).
Cool weapons are there, and the thing plays nice.

If you have a PS2, and have broadband, pick up SOCOM 2 US Navy Seals - it sells for US$19 now - cheap.

All in all, online console gaming rocks! And with the cheapest ADSL from C&W, you can still get good bang for you buck. :D

I am late to the thread, but the online gaming is good with consoles. Did it with a 256k connection before and it was great!!!!

Nice to know you have it up and running BCK. I may consider setting up at home.

Well, I've just borrowed NFS Underground 2 today. Tonight, I'll see how that plays online. Feeding other people dust from across the globe must be trip for real. :D

Well ive had CW adsl 128 for about a month now and been playin nfsu2 online and well the experience has not been the greatest. Its a bit choppy at times but then there are those races that are smooth. Mostly it runs a bit choppy buts its still fun, the game experience is really heightened with online play. Been tryin to play socom 2 but keep gettin errors, but i guess i just gotta try again.
