Yeah so I am no longer a Blackberry Noobie as I have been researching and learning tons of new stuff. Anyways this guide will help all those Blackberry 8320 & 8820 Users to updated their existing Rom from V4.5.0.51 to V4.5.0.110 (Platform 2.7.0.90) which is the latest & best Rom currently available and it is now being deployed on AT&T America.

Instructions for updating on ANY 8320& 8820 (regardless of carrier)

1. Download the Blackberry Desktop Manager v4.6 by scrolling down the list and selecting Blackberry Desktop Software v4.6 Click here https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22

2. Download the Blackerry OS v4.5.0.110 for AT&T, scroll down the list and select Blackberry 8320 Smartphone click here https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=577BCC914F9E55D5E4E4F82F9F00E7D4

3. After both downloads have been completed....Double click and Install the Desktop Manager on your Computer. Then double click and install the Blackberry Os v4.5.0.110 on your Computer....Note install the Desktop Manager first then the OS v4.5.0.110 after.

4. After successful installation of Blackberry Os v4.5.0.110.
Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named “vendor.xml.”

NB....Vendor.xml who contain specific details from AT&T such as bootscreens, logos and operator data that is specific to them....Remember your gonna use this OS for Digicel or Lime so PLEASE DELETE "Vendor.xml" from the specified directory.

5. Plug in your Black Berry and double click on “Loader.exe.” It’s located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

SIT BACK AND WAIT......Better yet go watch a Comedy :eusa_whis

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it’s done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says “waiting for initialization.”
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Benefits of the new OS are as follows:

a. Faster bootup
b. Faster loadtimes for applications
c. The phone will multitask many more applications more FLUIDLY
d. Improved support for Youtube
e. Better viewing for HTML views on Blackberry browser

Post your results as usual....Oh my phone is much faster since the upgrade.

NB...This update is good for both the 8320 & 8820 Blackberry Models

Hail Ricardo, I ave updated mine with another newer version of the 4.5 OS which is v4.5.0.52 and so far it has increased memory (RIM has removed the default pics/images and ringtones) to allow this increase. It also has a better function with speed. Camera and media functions are much better and improved with more security.... Overall the v4.5.0.52 OS is stable and good 2 go........

Are you sure that v4.5.0.52 is the latest OS from Rim? Please check again as the latest OS posted recently on www.crackberry.com was the one I mentioned in the thread which is v4.5.0.110 so please state how v4.5.0.52 is greater that the current v4.5.0.110 update? Not bashing you still but please check www.blackberry.com and you will that AT&T has the latest ROM currently out for Blackberry Curves and v4.5.0.52 is not that Rom. :eusa_snoo

N.B. For those updating to v4.5.0.110, the Desktop Manager has to be v4.6 and not v4.7 which is built for the Bold & Storm Models.

I have no idea wha exactly change, I just know that I got the bag of messengers in downloads folder now along with a help file thingy, I think some were in the bb messenger folder. At first I thought my bb messenger wasn't working cuz my friend added my pin but I didn't get the request. Now i'm wondering if it's cuz he added it before I got the service tho. Only got the phone on sat. and the service on wednesday so I wasn't all that familiar with the phone esp since I didn't check out much of the stuff as I was waiting for the BIS.

No problem....I am glad to see you're quite SMART as you used to guide and fitted it to your Blackberry Bold....very INGENIOUS man :icon_cool.

I am particularly pleased that you chose the latest OS update as once you delete the Vendor XML file the phone will work on your current providers' settings with no issues.

I didn't see a speed boost but before I updated I was unable to send a file to another phone via bluetooth and now that works. Also I wasn't able to browse using wifi, I was supposed to check if it would browse after I got my BIS but forgot and didn't check again til after the update but i'm guessing that's also because of the update.

I haven't added any other program via Desktop Manager so i'm wondering, in a case where u have another program to install how that work, is it that the programs that were installed on ur machine but aren't on the phone get installed when u click the loader.exe or u have to go through the install program option and do u have to install the program first or u can just have the downloaded file and then tell the manager to install on ur BB?

So that means running the loader.exe wont work how I say? I guess prolly nobody dont try it yet, gonna have to just experiment myself.

So far those are the only types i've used except when upgrading the OS.

Don't think it was RIM that removed it, During the Update, you have the option of deciding what gets loaded on the phone, whether it be apps or the preloaded pics or videos.

You just un-tick what you don't want to be loaded on the phone during the early part of the update. I normally don't install those foreign languages packs that saves you memory too.

i don't think the blackberry OS should be giving such problems, they have scaled down there OS visual to avoid memory leaks, any think else is just bad programing.

Well it is not yet official from what I hear....so for now I am just gonna read up some more about it on Crackberry.com cause if the upgrade is only for a few minor changes then I am gonna stick to v4.6.0.247 as so far it has been really stable with no issues....IF IT IS NOT BROKEN THEN DON'T FIX IT.....:eusa_whis

Well a friend of mine had the same issue when he did the upgrade from 4.2 to 4.5 on his Curve 8320 but we solved the issue by completely uninstalling Facebook 1.5 from the phone, then we did a hard reset and then a full reinstallation of the original Facebook app and not the NEW ONE which is 1.5 as the newest Facebook will not run on the 4.5 OS.

Why wont the facebook 1.5 work on the curve 0s 4.5?

Well it is just not designed for that OS....but rather for the newer Blackberries such as the 8900, 9000 and 9530....I recommend you use the previous Facebook release before the 1.5 which should work fine for your 8320 berry.

well facebook works on my sis 8320 running 4.5 just takes a bit longer to load the status updates but everything else is fine. Sometimes a backup-wipe-restore helps.
