Sweet Convergence

Cell-phone Manufactures are taking bold steps by incorporating other devices in there handsets these days. I am very impressed with the Capability, Style and Size of these multipurpose phones, which gives me a clear signal of what to expect in the future.
Some of today’s integrated goodies that are becoming more and more popular across models are: Bluetooth (Wireless), Digital camera, Infrared transmission (IrDA), GSM/GPRS integrated Modem, FM Radio, and the ability to download Java applications.
Phones with these wonder functionalities have found there way in Jamaica due largely in part to Digicell. They were the first to introduce handset on the GSM platform with the above listed features. So as to compete, cable and wireless is now introducing handsets that are a little better in feature.

I Will be getting an Ipaq pocketPC h3970 from the US in two weeks time which as Bluetooth onboard. I will shortly acquire a nokia 6310 phone which also as Bluetooth onboard and a GSM Modem, and guess what will happen then folks. I will have the ability to surf, Send mail, and IM having the phone possibly in my pocket acting as a modem with the Bluetooth linkage between the two devices. This is no dream my friends; I have done a similar activity with my previous PalmV and my nokia 6210 via IrDA, but unlike Infrared transmission (IrDA) Bluetooth in not line of site ;D .

Peace,
Kacey.

Wow kacey, you'll be happy with that pocketPC h3970/Nokia 6310 combo. I also wanted a 6310 to go with my 3635 (old model), but the budget doesn't have room for it right now ;) My only concern is the rates and charges to connect to the Net with this setup. What are these rates like now?

Hey I like the idea too... but I still think some things should remain outside a phone...

Bluetooth, IrDA, and the like I don't mind.. heck a phone is a phone and thus a potential modem... BUT having a camera in a phone.. TO ME .. is just downright silly...

I dunno... but with the number of times my phone falls... bye bye 30G

- back to modem-ability, how was that Kacey? Did you buy a card and dedicate it to internet use? How much surfing did you get done? I'm just as intrigued as Chris as it's always seemed a little bit too expensive for me to truly consider my cellie a modem...

Bless

I did not get much surfing done at the time with the PalmV and Nokia 6310 combo, it was a little costly. But I just wanted the experience.
I don’t know what the rates are either Chris, but it should be much less now.

You raised a good point Godkid if the phone goes the other stuff goes too, and I am convinced everyone with a phone as dropped it at least once.

Now I am curious Chris how are you going to connect that Ipaq 3635 and 6310 – I think you mean 6210.

Peace,
Kacey.
