Programs keep asking for internet access

McAfee Firewall keeps telling me when I boot up the computer that the following programs have tried to access the internet

Name: Application Layer Gateway Service v5.1.2600.5512
Path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\alg.exe

Name: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services v5.1.2600.5512
Path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe

Is this normal?

Yes..These are basically hosts for other proggies, like go-fers.

you'll need to set the parameters for the firewall, what apps to allow and what not to allow

hmm...come to think of it my zonealarm recently started popping up with this one in particular...must have been a windows update that changed this file

I noticed that this one in particular has been popping up quite a lot recently...never used to happen and i have made no change in terms of hardware or software
