The Nokia 3300 is GSM 900/1800 dual-band, so I think that limits it to Digicel.

Well that's interesting then. I got the info from http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,8764,5820,00.html, but when I checked C&W's website (http://www.cwmobile.com/jamaica/Handsets_Nokia3300.asp) it shows as GSM 850/1900. This looks like the phone is dual band and may come in either of the bands.

what do you mean " may come in either of the bands" ?

can it be unlock to facilitate both digi and cwj

This phone though is a Dual band, probably was designed for different markets thus its possible that two sets were made. One being compatible with Digicel and one for C&W. Take as a example the Nokia 1100 that was manufactured in bands for Digicel and C&W but anyone that works on one network will not work on the other, so yours on C&W will not work on Digicel. The phone Chris saw was the Europen version-Digicel compatible.

yes it can but to what end as if it's on c&w's network it can't work with digicel. but ATT will also be on 1900 bandwidth

Well actually Chance what u should do is check the model number of the phone you have by opening the battery compartment and reading it from there. I have experienced this problem with the Nokia 6800 i bought one in the USA thinking that it will work with Digicel came out here and it would not work at all however when i opened the battery compartment i found that it said 6800a which means that it is made for the CWJ freq. Hence they do make phones with the same model number and looks however they work with different networks and well the only place that they model number differs is in the battery compartment.

hey i'm not sure if this would work but how about try flashing it, maybe the phone is actually triband but has a software lock that forces the phone to use a particular bandwidth, so you could probably research that, its just a suggestion still.

hey and another thing when buying phones form cable and wireless i repeat it is a must for you to know wat bands they are been used on for example the nokai 3100 fly *** phone isnt it well i unlocked on for the chick and guess what i doesnt pick up to that reasin beeing that digicell band varies form areas to area meaning thaT SOME SECTIOn in kingston use 900 while other areas use 1800 so u you do the math whe u have unlocked a tri band phone from cable and wireless most of them do pick up all that wonderfull reason being that for the case of the nokai 3100 the bands are as follows 850\1900\1800 so i guess if your following this reply you will understand that the 3100 will only work on the 1800 band for dig ok so it will not pick up as lovely as havin a 900/1800 band so if anyone thinks i m wrong let me know these ARE JUST THING AS THAT YOU HAVE TO TAKE IN TO CONSIDERATION WHEN BUYING A PHONWE TO BE UNLOCKED

i was unlocking the 3100 today and it was givin the same problem, the sp lock seems to be removed cuase i can start up the phone with the digicel chip but the problem is it doesn't pick up any signal. thats strange though cause i'm sure the phone is a tri-band phone.

yo i was wondering if its a similar thing to the samsung s300 phone. with that phone during the unlocking process you have to set the bandwidth.

tommytrouble
September 22, 2004, 09:41 AM
hey the prob with the 3100 is that the that 2 bands are reserved for cw the only band left for digicell is the 1800 band and someone said somthing about flexing right well if you can get flex for most of these phones its gonna cost you a bundle
