Hey, anyone know how to setup the blackberry curves to connect to the internet via bluetooth on Digicel network. Don't think the customer service reps have a clue.

I am using a Curve 8310 with a Apple Macbook.

Thanks!

yep digicel blocked access with any BB fone via using it as a modem. They say its for "security reasons"

im sure one of the quirks that comes with buying a berry is that once u have a laptop u can access the net anywhere as long as you have cell signal

blackberries can be used as a modem BUT digicel charges 125JMD for every 0-1MB download. yes, the pre-requisite is the blackberry RIM service.

Mad eeeh .. ..

Need some good competition in the place.
A. Movil where are u?

this info received from 878-2232 (digicel blackberry support center)

Setting up most BBs for use on Digicel is pretty straighforward. I wasn't aware that they blocked any usage.

The most complicated part is setting up the APN ID, which is done as a script, within the dial-up modem software on your PC. First, you must have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed on your machine. Then you must leave it running minimised while the modem is in use. You create a new modem instance on your PC control panel\phone and modem settings. The APN to use (which is added to the 'advanced' tab of the modem setup screen, along with some other basic information) is web.digiceljamaica.com .

I am part of a corporate plan, so I believe we get unlimited usage.

Using a BB 8800, Speedtest.net tests show 135kbps down, 110kbps up, to Miami.

There is a lot of information at blackberryforums.com all that is missing is the APN info, which I listed above.

I am so puzzled why people keep getting told by Digicel that it won't work.

Here's my experience:

I am on Digicel in Jamaica.
I am POST-PAID, on a corporate plan.
I have a BB 8120
I followed the instructions posted elsewhere on Techjamaica (see below).
Use the modem script file +cdgcont=1, "IP", "web.digiceljamaica.com"
I make sure that DEVICE MANAGER is running on the laptop.
The modem dial string is *99#

It works.

I thought so too but Digicel I am sure is blocking it cause they don't want the extra Traffic BOGGING down their network....Can you believe I spent a full day trying to see if there was a work-around to getting on Digicel's network via my 8320 Curve, but after 5 hours I am yet to send a byte?

I am sure they are blocking access. Curious though are Lime customers getting net access from their Blackberries?

I think we need to petition against Digicel's monopolistic practices.

I see...which means the issue lies with Prepaid Blackberry customers....cause I am still unable to connect my device to my Desktop.

Has any Prepaid customer on Digicel got their Blackberry modem to work with their computers?
