My dad, just gave me a BlackBerry 8700 that hi workplace isn't using anymore. The problem is that it is locked to a single C&W sim-card that I do not have. Can someone suggest a free method of unlocking the phone, or a site that I can download a firmware update that will do this for me please?

So why don't you close this thread then, or is it that you are experiencing some other problem?

WTF?
I had posted a question, which is yet to be answered. The moderators, keep removing previous posts. Hence you didn't see all that.
I need to know if the phone can still utilize GPRS service (not to be confused with the BlackBerry service). I don't feel like committing myself to some lame post-paid contract right now.

A blackberry is by definition tied to the BES or BIS. if you don't want that, then its best you get some other phone with the features you want.
it would be foolhardy for blackberry to set up their elaborate proprietary system, and then allow it to be bypassed by using regular internet and email

Oh yeah, I friend of mine has a Blackberry 7230 locked to Orange. It is asking for some password. Can someone PM me some prices on getting this done?

The thing I want to know is: What is the best connection speed that I can expect to get from either cellular provider, if I choose to subscribe to the full package? I can't be bothered to pay for slow GPRS-like connections.

Currently I use the pre-paid GPRS service with my phone. What I want to know is: Does C&W still allow you to use WAP if you are out of credit? Is there a way to surf the web on my BlackBerry using a blackberry and a data cable with my PC?

Thanks for the URL, but as I stated before, my phone is already unlocked.
Do you have any other tips/tricks other than the ones posted in the URL you posted?

once a phone can only be used with one sim card, it is locked ( by definition)
so if you have problems using other sims, unless it is a network/hardware problem, it means your phone ios locked. there are different types of locks ( net, mep, sim, cck, nck, etc)
anyway. i can sort it out. at a good price if you wish. u know the number. or you can make a hobby of it by searching the internet, and maybe you will find something free....

I'm just thinking about the BlackBerry at the moment. I find it so cool, the number of things you can really do with it compared to the Symbian OS.
