When I go to the device manager it shows the drive but it has a esclamation mark in a yellow circle beside the drive name. It is a JLMS DVD-ROM LTD-1665
drive. I tried restarting and my computer and enabling it but it would not work. Oh I cannot locate the driver cd. Your suggestions would be well appreciated.

I am tempted to give you some advice but remember do so at your own risk. Windows rarely ever requires a driver for CD-Roms or DVD-Roms as it tends to use a generic driver to access the drive. If this DVD-Rom was working previously can you remember if you altered anything before it stopped working.

Here is the risky part.
1. Delete the drive from the Device Manager
2. Scan for hardware changes or reboot

If the drive is functioning Windows should redetect it and load the appropriate driver.

Was gonna say the same thing.....uninstall the driver from Device Manager....then if the PC ask you to restart...do so.

When the PC restart, it should automatically pick up the drive.........if not, manually scan for hardware device......Control Panel.....then add Hardware....follow the steps.

In case, it did not tell you to restart the PC.....you can manually scan for hardware device.

Uninstalling the drivers from Device Manager is not going to work because there is a software conflict. Please see this thread (http://www.techjamaica.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20993&highlight=upper+filters) for more information and possibly a resolution to your problem.

Thanks for your input everyone. I finally got back the drive. What I did was to uninstall all the programs that I had installed recently and restarted in safe mode and the drive appeared. Now its back to normal. Thanks again.
