Nextel uses Gsm...................

Nextel (or more accurately SprintNextel) does not use GSM. They use a mobile telecommunications technology developed by Motorola called iDEN.

iDEN is a different standard from GSM and was originally designated for analog Specialized Mobile Radio (SMR) networks. Newer iDEN phones use a SIM card for compatiblity with GSM phones to allow for roaming but most iDEN phones are incompatible with GSM networks and vice versa.

The answer to the original poster's question is: NO the Nextel Blackberry 7520 will not work on any carrier in Jamaica. It works on the ESMR 800 band.

Interesting information to know for those who have interest in the cell-phones....but I must say well put together Psilos.

I am learning something everyday.....but what does iDen stands for?

Thanks Yung Jah, iDEN stands for Integrated Digital Enhanced Network. Very few providers in the world use this for their mobile network and almost half of them are Nextel subsidaries.
