me need help....
now my network at home just sits on a workgroup.
thing is, i enable netbios over tcp. however, i wanna kill all those broadcasts from 137 and 138 etc....im behind a nat too.
now i been examining hosts and lmhosts files and i did some tests using the hosts file where i can ping for name and the host file finds the ip addy etc.....
trouble is, when it comes to browsing, you just canny see the comp names in the workgroup area in say explorer.
anyway round this? i want it simple like the netbios fix but without the shouting business.
any help appreciated. :D

Not sure I understand what you are saying though..But whenever I used the host file hack back in Win98/95 I would search for the machine by name...By Start Find...In 2000/XP its Search --->Files/Folders-->Computers...

yeah guru but if i want to browse shared flders on the remote machine, how do i acomplish that using hosts without using netbios over tcp?
do you see what i mean?
the remote machines dont show up in the network browsers at all.....no matter how i explore the workgroup icon....just doesnt show anything.... ???
only when i turn on netbios does it do it..... >:(
