I'd like to see when these speeds reach Jamaica. :(

Just so that we're clear, the article is speaking about the new Wi-Fi protocol 802.11g which is in the same family as 802.11a and 802.11b. The 802.11x family of protocols are used in Wi-Fi (Wireless) LANs which are found in offices, homes and public places like libraries, coffee shops and airports (unfortunately none in Jamaica :()
802.11b - 11 Mbps; Long Range at 2.4Ghz (Lower freq.)
802.11a - 54 Mbps; Short Range at 5Ghz (Higher freq.)
802.11g - 54 Mbps; Long Range at 2.4Ghz (Lower freq.)
802.11g is backwards compatible with 802.11b
As I understand it, these protocols aren't used in Wide Area Networks which is the category of network that Wireless ISPs would use to distribute wireless Internet access, so don't look for these speeds in a WWAN (Wireless WAN) anytime soon ;)
