In my daily surfing i ran into this forums and figured i'ed jump in and contribute. I figured i would start with internet speed problems since over the yrs i've had so much problems with speed issues with local ISP's its not funny. I will post a few results for different ISP's and tweaks i did to get whats the best i can get out of them as to speed at my location. I hope the rest of members chime in with what works for them and there own speed test results. For now i will post Gotel and CW dialup, with more to come.
Gotel 128K Results:
2003-02-21 09:22:29 EST: 8 / 52
Your download speed : 8107 bps, or 8 kbps.
A 0.9 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 52770 bps, or 52 kbps.
My upload speeds maxs out at about 110 kbps with an average being around 50-60 kbps. The download speed maxs out at 50 kbps with 20-40 kbps being average, i've tried tons of RWIN values and other software setting tweaks and found RWIN 131070 and MTU 1500 best for me but overhaul those values i feel are very subjective. i just cant get the downloads up to any real good level with any software tweaks. I will comment on what i feel is the problem later.
CW Dialup Results:
2003-02-21 09:18:37 EST: 39 / 23
Your download speed : 39258 bps, or 39 kbps.
A 4.7 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 23571 bps, or 23 kbps.
I connected at 49333 bps, these results sre pretty much consistent with what i get everytime.
Speed Test Results and Tweaks sites
I use these sites all the time and find them just about the best.
Speed Results: http://nyc.speakeasy.net/
Speed Tweaks: http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks
I will leave my opinion to the best, ok, poor and down right ugly to later on after i post a few more ISP's.
On a side note if getting Gotel http://www.gotelja.com/ internet try and get them to install the AirSpan WipLL http://www.airspan.com/home.html equipment instead of the Level 3 http://www.level3.com/ as its seem to work better. Also dont expect your ping times to get below about 500 ms with Gotel as their ISP backbone is http://www.verestar.com/ which is via satellite :(.
Keep the speed flowing.
