I often wonder why Jamaica doesn't have any major video game rental services like GameFly (www.gamefly.com). It's one thing to spend exorbitant sums on money on next Gen consoles, but when you really add up the cost of games over the years it's extremely expensive and this I think contributes to why there is no real gaming market here. I mean, how many games are really worth shelling out $5000+ on except the real collectables? It seems almost pointless when you look at it: Buy Really expensive console + 2 games I really like and that's IT! I think the gaming industry here has adopted the Printer + Ink strategy (Cost of printer = Cost of Inkx2).

Having a rental service where we could rent an unlimited number of games per month (1 at a time ofcourse) would be awesome! Are Jamaicans really that untrustworthy that a prospective company would fear people not returning the games? I think the great majority of people would return them because the continued service would be of greater benefit than being banned [and being forced to pay $5000+].

This is an untapped market that if taken up could be a breakthrough for us gamers.

What do you think?

I know that Box Office Dvd's rent games but not all their branches tho.
Wats New use to rent games but not any more.
according to what i heard, it did fan out too well because people not returning them and the ones that have been returned are some times damaged.
I use to rent from both company but their title line up started to slip plus keeping the games until you have completed them were too expensive. It worked out better to buy them.
It's a good idea still, cause i help me decide which games to buy and which ones to burn..

And a next thing. shady people (my self included) use to just rent and copy the games. so after a point the games would just sit there cause we already have them

Its not because Jamaicans are "too tief" although that is true. Its because of policies that they have to follow. I had approached Gamefly and GOVOJO (now named Gplay) about extending their services here. It was a legal issue for both companies at the time.

There is a work a round but I never took the time to explore it.
