Confirming long suspicions that its first flirtation with handheld gaming wouldn't be its last, Nokia today announced the N-Gage QD, the upcoming successor to its original "mobile gaming deck." Coming to Europe, Asia, and Africa in May, with a a North American release to follow in June, the QD aims to correct many of the design failings that kept the original N-Gage from becoming a success last year.

Huge improvements both in looks and functionality. One of the biggest drawbacks with the original N-Gage was the MMC card slot under the battery. Now that the new N-Gage has an externally accessible slot, swapping in and out the MMC can be done with a breeze. Another problem that I didn't like with the original one was the placement of the earpiece and mic to use it as a phone. I simply didn't use it like that but instead opted to use the handsfree earpiece.

found this on the GATT site.

N-Gage QD

Nokia has announced today that they plan to distribute a revamped version of their struggling handheld console, dubbed the N-Gage QD. The QD model lacks the MP3 player and tri-band phone capabilities, but it picks up the slack in usability. It seems Nokia heard the fustration of people trying to change their game cartridges and have moved the game cartride slot to the outside. The game auto-launches as soon as the cartridge is inserted. The control pad (Dpad) has also been redesigned.

The estimated cost of this device with a service plan is $99 US and $199 US without.

I miss the mp3 player and triband capabilities :-\
