With the launch of the Wii and the PlayStation 3 only a month away, the battle for the next-generation consoles is heating up. While Nintendo is banking on their innovative new wireless controller and other new features to make the Wii a success, Microsoft and Sony are battling it out for the "bigger, faster, and shinier" market. So it came as no surprise that Richard Teversham, director of platform and marketing at Microsoft Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), came out swinging today with a bold prediction: "I guarantee that Xbox 360 games will look better than PS3." His comments were made at this year's X06 show in Barcelona, and were recorded by the Dutch gaming site FOK!games.

Such a grandiose claim might be quickly dismissed as overly-enthusiastic marketing babble, but Teversham at least made an attempt to justify his rhetoric. Despite the fact that, in theory, the Xbox 360 and PS3 have comparable hardware architectures, Teversham believes that the ease of use of Microsoft's development software, combined with the year's head start that developers have had writing games for the Xbox 360, will keep that platform "ahead of the curve for two to three years."
