I got this Pioneer DVD burner that does not give the full 4.7 of DVD's that say 4.7 capacity ...
Would a firmware upgrade correct this .. or should i just leave it alone ??

Just leave it. I'm really beginnning to think that the stated 4.7GB is measured in decimal like how hard drive sizes are stated. Why? Because i've tried burning and usually it maxes at around 4.3 something GB. So I'm assuming its the same thing in effect here.

You actually write 4.7GB of data? I've never seen that unless you are overburning or something. But you said it so I'll take your word for it. What brand media do you use? I need some of those.

I have never burned 4.7GB of data before but i have burned up to 4.6GB without overburning with different types of media, i have achieved this with Maxell, Verbatim & TDK

That's actually correct, i never thought about dvd discs in that way though. However, the 4.7gig capacity stated by manufactuers is actually decimal 47 billion bytes. The computer recognizes this 47 billion bytes as roughly 4.38 gigs using the binary system. Therefore, 4700,000,000 bytes ÷ 1024 = 4,589,844 KB ÷ 1024 = 4,482.27 MB ÷ 1024 = 4.38 GB. I guess anything burnt over 4.38gig is overburning then.

Well maybe for some discs its overburning ... But for some its not.
Cuz i get 4.5 out of all the discs i buy, even the ones that say 4.7 ...
with overburning disabled ...
So i really think its possible to get the 4.7 out of some of those discs ...

Has anybody been able to overburn dvd+r disks? I tried yesterday for the first
