Has anyone done any Project Management certifications like the Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (http://www.pmi.org) or the IT Project+ from CompTIA (http://www.comptia.org)?

Project managemant skills are extremely important in IT. Many projects fail because of poor project management practices.

These courses have their advantages as they are not company oriented. That is geared towards one particular software. As opposed to Microsoft certification one Microsoft Project.

The PMP certification can be had by even non-IT people. It focuses on the principles of good project management based on standards set by the Project Management Institute (http://www.pmi.org) so it is applicable to many disciplines.

If you work on a lot of projects then this cert would be very beneficial to you. Those principles of good project management can make your work progress much easier. IMP has 3 day seminars on Project Management from time to time so if you can get in on one of them it would be good.
