Whitebooks are basically barebone laptops that resellers can buy, assemble and brand. or DIY.

Technically the many brand name manufacturers are whitbook resellers except that they have all the say in how the product should look but they dont actually have manufacturing plants just huge assembly lines.

eg. quanta is a manufacturer - they actually fabricate cuircits and components for ibooks and such.

msi- sells branded msi laptops as well as whitebooks, which are the same as the branded ones but unbranded. other less well known whitebook producers buy from companies like quanta and sell to resellers for very low prices.

reseller - buys whitebooks brand them, sell them, offer thier own service and support, warranties etc.

i think some companies sell single units directly to the public/technical users/businesses.

but as you know there is a risk. companies are not very well known and service and support is optional and sometimes left up to the reseller and/or the end user - so i wouldnt recommend it to the average individual.

the main benifit is COST and that they use more standard parts (now that notebooks have become popular) and there is a wider range of options interms of hardware/os.

Interchangeable notebook components ....hmmmm

Sounds like a great idea. So long there is no scarfice being made on the next chipset architecture. I just want them faster and lighter.

If its broken its broken. Get a new one. People in JA get too attached to stuff. But I guess its all good for the most part.

they're already fast enough for me. i just want it smaller and longer battery life. even though those panasonics and samsungs are quite small enough already.
