I have been using a Lite-On 40x burner for a long time now. I have never had any problems whatsoever. i am cosidering stepping up to the Lite-On 52x.

Which burner do u guys think is better than this burner and y??

Or should i even bother to upgrade??

I 2 have a liteOn 40x burner and have no problems with it. Although the 52x has some nice features like 24x or 32x rw speed, I wouldn't bother upgrading because I still burn cds at 12x and 16x speeds to make sure they come out working perfectly.

some cd players can't read audio cds burned faster than 12x and i burn a lot of movies and games. if these r burned faster than 24x, they, most of the time will not come out properly, ie. movies will 'itch' and games will stop installing after a certain point bacause of crc errors.

Besides, even if u burn cds at 40x, it takes about >3mins. If u burn at 52x, it takes about 2.5 mins. Is 30 secs that big of a difference? I don't think so.

thanx that link really helped. basically they didnt even test with 52x burners because 52x cds were hard to get their hands on. I think they tested the burners on macs.

pcmag top ten list has the lite-on 48x burner ranked 2nd.

I hope that you are referring to home movies that you made and games that you back up or made on you own ;)

Not all dvd players will play vcd that are burnt at 52x (the older versions mainly). The problem is this, when a new speed of burners come out the dvd/cd players on the market sometimes have problems reading cd burnt at this new speed as they weren't design for it. It doesn't matter if it home movies or if he copied a original vcd (hope u got manufactors permission ;D).

another thing that dramatically affects speed is the settings/hardware on your computer. lets go through a few.
1. dma should be enabled for both the burner and the harddrive.
2. should be using the faster 80 pin cables on both devices.
3. disk data shouldnt be fragmented.
4. source and burner should be on seperate ide channels.

each of these will provide improvements with respect to how fast and reliable that you burn. however, as someone already said, you are better off burning at lower speeds for better compatability and for safer burns.
buying a fast burner to do a couple of cd's is false economy. unless you are in the business of producing batches and batches of cd's, it just aint worth the additional expense and then you would buy a multi burner anyway.

The DVD drive I am writing about is really good:

Writes: DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R, CD-RW

DVD-R 4X*, DVD-RW 2X*
DVD+R 4X, DVD+RW 2.4X
CD-R 16X
CD-RW 10X

Not many DVD drives have all these capabilties, thus the $300.00 pricetag. Sure, you can always check eBay or pricewatch for lower prices.
