SO am thinking of reformating my HDD, but I have a concern in that supose it dont stop the problem. My pc is 8years old going on to 9years(dont laugh). Anyway i was just wondering can old age cause this problem?

Could be a faulty driver. Try system restore and set it for three or four days back.

i'm guessing that windoes xp doesn't like your old hardware, try running windows 2000. there are so many things that could be wrong with your hardware, try downloading memtest 1.6 and running that though.

Maybe your microprocessor is overheating (did you overclock it?), check the fan. How long have you been running xp on your machine?

Please do the simple things first ... run a memory testing tool and run a ard drive testing tool.

nope didnt overclock

which software do you recommend for those test? i really dont like using software to test hardware from my own experience :(

interested in that nemesis as well but do you want to try cleaning the thermal paste off your processor and reapplying a fresh layer to see if that helps?

Slipstreamed cds are for the lazy, the only thing i would find useful is the service pack 2 built in, office 2003, nero, wmp10, winrar can stay.... i retract, it can come in really handy.

Actually, let's not discuss nemesis since it's not so legit. It's taboo here.

nemesis is underground stuff ,basically hackers just add stuff to windows. Hence it`s sorta illegal so your on ur own, its a public forum so i cant say much.

Well I got Win xp Nemesis 4 Titan Edition around 3 or 4 months ago and been using it ever since. Sure there are a few minor bugs in it but I can still work with it (still am). The biggest problem I 'used' to have with it is that, for about 2 weeks after installing it, I had problems restarting and shutting down. It took longer than it should to shutdown, and just as I was about to take it off and put on back normal WinXp with service pack 2, wouldn't you know it; it just start move how I expected it to. In fact it move a bit faster than normal WinXp with service pack 2 even though they should be the same thing. Takes a very long time to install, yes, but that's because of the extra goodies it comes with :D .
And Kenroy, try formatting if you haven't done that yet, and reinstalling the software, then run a disk defragment if you must and see what happen. If that don't work, just buy a new computer (one that's up to date), and try again.
Oh and here's the readme that came with mine if your're interested:

One thing you should check b4 your format, is to see if your really getting a blue screen of death. By default your XP OS will restart if there is a serious problem. To turn it off right click on My Computer and go to properties, then Advanced, and under the Startup and Recovery section click on Settings, then uncheck the box next to "Automatically Restart".
The next time your PC restarts you may get the exact displayed in a blue screen.
But Windows Nemisis is very buggy and VERY illegal. First of all it is a working copy of MS WinXP with slight modifications to the UI and secondly it comes with alot of illegal software. As kenroy112 said it was created by a bunch of hackers so there is a very high chance there are spyware embeded progrmas installed in teh abckground. I had it at one point and deleted it and through out the CD the next day .......way too buggy and i just dont trust it.

Ok, know I'm having a reboot problem as well and i'm sure it doesn't really have anything to do with the os.
The problem started yesterday when I was upgrading my memory. I had a 512mb ddr Kingston rom and was yesterday inserting another. When I turned on my machine and checked the bios to see if it picked it up, it didn't. So I took it out and switched both of them and checked again and surely enough it picked it up.
I successfully booted up in windows for a while and was about to launch some softwares, then it froze. So I had to restart, and got back into windows and when it finish boot up, it just restart without notice. One time when it restarted, I glimpsed the blue screen, so I thought it was a hardware problem. I took out the memory I put in and left the old one in it and tried again, but it's the same prob. One time it pass the bootscreen and then I get a black screen then the monitor turnoff. Can anyone help?

Have you cleared the memory slots of dust? What brand memory modules and are they running the same speed?

@powpow, the other day i was upgrading the memory in two machines, insert the new mem, nothing, drop back in the old the check bios settings, nothing, reset bios with old mem, nothing. put the two machines one side for that, can't remeber if the next day i changed the psu or if i scrapped the machines then put them back together to solve the problem but i know this, if a next machine i have to work on gives me the same prob is a cup of water it a get then a swift kick to the drive bays.

Well I cleaned the slots when I was inserting the one I had before, and they are both Kingston 512mb ddr 333 mhz.

Well I hope I won't have to come to that conclusion.
One time after I took out the memories and put them back in, and turned on the machine and checked the bios settings, I noticed one of my harddrives weren't picking up. But I fixed that problem, but my machine still rebooting, either as it going to the welcome screen or when I in windows and about to do something. Sometimes when after the boot screen, going on to the welcome screen, I get a blackscreen, then after a few seconds my monitor turns off, then it reboots again. I am really not sure if it's the memory that cause the problem, or because it keeps rebooting, that some of my windows files got corrupted. Oh I hope I won't have to format again so soon :( .

Well, going home know. If I don't reply to any post during the weekend you know why. But formatting will be my last option.

try to repair from thetup console, if that doesn't work then try the repair install as your last option, do not format.

Well, thank God it's not software problem (i think). I am know using the new memory by itself and it's working fine, so it's definately good. Anymore suggestions as to what could be wrong?

Did U Install Ne New H/ware After Installing The Os?? That Happened To Me Once After Installing A Memory....

seeing like memory upgrade problems are not that uncommon, anybody thinks the culprit is the quick boot option in the bios, seeing like that options disables the advanced memory checks???

The only hardware I installed after the os is the old 512 memory, and know I trying to install the new one. I wonder if it's because both a dem has a speed of 333 mhz and my motherboard can only go up to 266 mhz?
Any suggestions?

Thats ur problem right there..... The memory that u installed after running the os
Aldayne

That shouldn't be the problem star. Pow, most memory modules are backward compatible in that they can support lower speeds so i doubt that the prob.

Well, like to thank you all for your help. Turns out it was the speed of the memories, (probly combined) that caused the problem. I changed both of them from 333 mhz to what my motherboard support 266 mhz and no problem so far.

Just because your comps stop crashing that does not mean everything is ok, run memtest for around 6 hours to ensure everything is ok.

cause ram is something that is ment for CONTINOUS LOAD AND STRESS. It is THE most stressed componet of the computer. If it passes now, and keeps passing chances are it wont fail. If it pass, then fail, an pass etc, ur timnings/clock speeds needs to be adjusted else one minute things are fine and the next it fails. I know form my experience with my A64 rig it took me HOURS of fiddling with the ram timings -not jus cas latency, BUT ALL A DEM to get the kinks out of my ram an get everything compatible. I wasnt stable at DDR400 -EVEN with cas3, after tweaking now I am stable at DDR500 @ 2.5-3-3-8 with 2.8V going thru it memtested 8 hours straight and no errors.
