I have a PC that I had windows 98 on, I installed windows XP on it and it will not power down automatically when the computer is shutdown.
It did this while the 98 was installed. What could be the problem?

power setting.
get into device manager and look under computer.
if it says standard pc then thats your problem. you need to change the driver to acpi and enable power management in your bios if the setting is there. dont worry if it aint.
if it does say acpi, then follow the troubleshooter in help regarding startup and shutdown problems.
could be something simple like fastshutdown either enabled or disabled in your bios. but follow the route above first.

I had tried those before. But I checked them again just to make sure.
Power sheme is Home/Office
For the BIOS I tried all the power options available there.
Troubleshooter did not help.

Get Winguides Tweak Manager Professional. I think there is an option to power off pc automatically.
