What is the difference between the Adaptive and the Linear A+ Exams?
hmmm jogging my old head...
Liner Exam has the questions becomming progressively harder... Adaptive Exams have the questions increasing in "difficulty" only when your answer the previous questions correctly. PLEASE PLEASE tell me if I was wrong :D
I do not remember how the scoring goes though.

I was remembering something along that line too Gillion ??? ???
If my memory serves me right all (256 mb DDR) the adaptive "adapt" to your current progress in the exam i.e Say you got a question on DOS -- Answered incorrectly the software gives you another question on DOS...
Again.......

There are between 20 and 30 questions on each of the A+ exams. Because the tests are adaptive, your score may be determined at any point.
What is an adaptive format?
An adaptive test adjusts its questions dependent upon your answer to the previous question. In this format, no two tests are alike and the testing time is greatly reduced.
The linear format is basically a set number of questions chosen before the test, that covers the tested topics proportionate to the making scheme. If my memory serves me right it is 60-70 questions.

I wasn't aware that they had diffent ones. Is it a case that you have an option between the two or is it that they 2 exams for the certificaton has different marking schemes.

This is not necessary. Examination Discussions can be done in the general forum or in the forum to which the examination applies. For example... A+ and the hardware section ;).

Where's the best place to do the A+ training and exams locally?

The cheapest thing to do is buy the books yourself and study by yourself. I can name at least a dozen people who did this and passed.

It was some experience when I did the exam; I did it on my own. I did the hardware first then I did the software, the latter was more challenging for me. However, I got very high scores, I could care less if its linear or adaptive as long as my $250 + US did not go to waste. As I got the answers correct the questions got harder, but I still them right so the machine gave up at 12 questions for the hardware, and when I did the software a month later it gave up at about 15. I think that was the adaptive method. Linear I think they give you all the 30 questions and then your percentage is worked out, so anyway you take it study hard and you will pass.
Peace.

Well they should and make it availbale to the common people. Ensure that a newbie don't have to take out a mortage, just to learn

about how long does it take to prepare for a+ or n+
Hey Tregg it depends on current level of expertise, normally if you are currently working in the field it would be easier for you.......Normally a month is good amount of time for Network+......
