Xeno you are too uptight man, even so I have always tried to share different angles on anything i do in this 'tech business'

Mitchie check out my thread about the Windows Mobile 2003 @ http://www.techjamaica.com/tech_forum/index.php?board=5;action=display;threadid=1810

To: Xeno & igodit We should moderate a PDA Forum ;)

Another thing Mitchie, Igodit, and myself are only showing you the diverse potential of such devices. Wait soon we'll demonstrate its multimedia capabilities (psyche) :D, but seriously the serious side to PDAs are enormous.

To: Xeno & igodit We should moderate a PDA Forum;D

That would be cool - but - I hardly think there are enough posts to this forum regarding such devices to justify the creation of a standalone forum for the devices. In which case, if we did, we'd also have to sub-divide the hardware forum and create a Forum for :

Architecture for issues such as computer assembly, microprocessors, motherboards, memory & memory configurations, power supplies, CMOS configurations, hard drives, PCI & AGP port issues, USB issues and such like...

Multimedia For hardware like sound & video cards, speakers, headsets etc, home stereo systems, digital cameras, digital camcorders etc...

Input / Output Peripherals such as keyboards, mice, printers, scanners, monitors etc...

Furthermore the Hardware Thread is only 7 pages long, and there are only 1,645 posts there that fall into these categories that would probably make it worthwhile (and then, probably not).

PDAs would fall into a category called Microelectronics. Under such a category, we'd not only talk about PDAs but also stuff like:

MP3 Players (u up for this GodKid?)
USB Key-Drives
Cellphones
Smart-Phones
GPS (Global Positioning Systems)
Compact Flash & Secure Digital Multimedia cards (and all other variations)
And whatever other gadgets these scientists can think up next!

So that means you're suggesting for them to create 5 new forums under Hardware!
1) Architecture
2) I/O Peripherals
3) Multimedia
4) Microelectronics
5) General Hardware

Now that's a lotta work! That not only means sifting the hardware forum, but the General forum as well. Sometimes I think the General forum is too general... so many hardware issues find their way there... quite odd. I don't know if the admins think that's a good idea.... or do they? *hint, hint* ;D Realistically, the new categories may spread the posts too thin. Or maybe not... I dunno. Ask Chris or CKnight.

Now what were we saying about the Business end functions of PDAs? ;D

I have been suggesting that we make a PDA board for months now.

The Pocket PC has a lot of business functions to it. I use mine as a Bible, Dictionary, sync with my Microsoft Money 2003 deluxe, email, contacts, administer my network (wifi), make calls via bluetooth.

Take a look at these apps:

Running Voice GSM 3.0.4
http://www.pocketgear.com/Product_images/7/742/rvgsm300.gif
Running Voice GSM 3.0 is the next generation of the most advanced and value added tool for complete GSM and GPRS communication for Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC and Pocket PC 2002.

Running Voice GSM 3.0 holds features for dialing, messaging, data configuration, data session management and much more.

The new generation of Running Voice GSM focuses much on data features and holds three sub-components that provide the important data features. These components are the Data Monitor, the StatManager and the Flexport.

BASIC AREAS OF FUNCTIONALITY- Dialling (from Dialpad, Outlook contacts, SIM/phone memory)
- Messaging (support SMS, long SMS)
- Support for EMS rich text (font size, bold, italic, underscore, etc.)
- Enhanced message settings (Unicode, validity time, delivery report, etc.)
- SMS Outlook integration(send messages from Outlook Contacts)
- Support for export of SMS:es to a separate .txt file.
- Forward sent or received SMS messages.

I have been suggesting that we make a PDA board for months now.

- I think Chris is noticing........ well, I hope he is noticing... ;D

By the way, this is what I'm talking about. The reason why I suggested you folks highlight these business end purposes is for other people reading the boards who may not see the point of owning one of these devices. We have to remember that it's not only techj members that read the boards. If we only highlighted games, what do you think other folks will think we are? I'm glad y'all see my point. Excellent reviews thus far. Keep 'em coming. ;)

Many handheld people are familiar with Quicken (from Palm OS days). What about Pocket Money 2003? I use that on a regular basis to keep tabs on my daily expenditure. I then sync that data with MS Money 2003 on my PC. By tracking every cent I spend on a daily basis, I can create a behaviour analysis chart on My PC to study my spending patterns over time. From this, I can track how my money is being used (many times people spend blindly) and determine how to make changes in my spending behaviour so as to more quickly achieve long term goals.

In this kind of economic climate, one needs to possess a certain level of discipline when it comes to spending money. Without the right types of analysis tools to do the job, one may find that resorting to simple text files or even pencil and paper (or the traditional balance book) is not quite as effective.

- [Edit] -

I think this thread should be renamed to Pocket PC Software.
