I try to install an external modem. But because of an 'error' that was shipped with this computer, I can't use it.
OT, no offence to whoever works for Ultimate Computer whatever wherever in Hagley Park! >:( THAT COMPANY IS CROOKED >:(
Any tips that may solve this problem? What else do u need to know?
I know I was dumb to take this computer but those times I used to think that Windows was the only operating system (until i met BeOS).
And according to there warranty they are not responsible for anything after they stop using it and we start; and its only a year guarantee!
P.S. Got this PC on the Eve of Tax Cuts for PC parts.

Maybe the MB is faulty or you are having an IRQ conflict. Not 100% sure still, soh u go hafi wait until the tech-heads them wake up.

step at a time mate. 8)well, that error simply states that you have two power setups.
it also advises you to get the latest firmware for your bios.
have you been to the manufacturer of the board website yet?
ok so go find out exactly what model motherboard you have and what is the name of the manufacturer here. we can go on after that. ;)

from the error I'd simply follow the intructions as deakie suggests.
however Tech-Guru's question are well placed too.
2 ACPI files.... hmm... could that be caused by hardware profiles ??? :-[ ... since harware profiles tend to govern power usage?

ok mate.
here ya go....
on yur board site use the bios update for your board....which is
s3mu102.bin. you will need the awardflash.exe uttility to do the job. read the 00110f88 doc to understand how to do it. pray there isnt a power failure while you are doing it.... :D
http://www.tekram.com/updates.asp?Product=S3Pro-Mu
try adding the -mu for the link to work or got to home and navigate.
there are other drivers there for your board as well. go for the sound ones. do not bother with the via ones. instead go here and get the full new and latest via drivers.
http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=300
get the drivers...hyperion....and get the installation doc as well.
you now have your work cut out for you... :P
finally, do the bios first. then switch it off and clear the bios. check your board manual on how to do this. it will load the default setup an you can boot into the bios and set the settings the way you want. if you are unsure, then go there now and note the settings before upgrading it.
the reboot of the bios flash does wonders as i have learned personally.
it means you will have to take the battery out or move the jumper. check the manual as i said.
remember to remove the modem drivers off your system before setting them up again k. ;)

This is too late but thanks all. The simple thing was to delete some things in the device manager and get Windows to reinstall them. Another prob ... it seems like the latest update was buggy. BIOS constantly resets and my keyboard sometimes doesn't respond. I think i am going to get another mobo.
Again, thanks.

Try replacing the battery in the Mobo first.
