Give a little more information, what type of video card do you have? Could the resolution go higher before? Do you have the latest video card drivers installed?

You said u got the PC a month ago, was it the complete thing, like monitor & system unit or just the system unit? Cuz some old monitors might not be able to go over that resoultion. Do u have the drivers installed? What type of video card are u using, like onboard or apg/pci video card?

some graphics cards have a lil reset jumper on it....remove that and try to boot again

did you recently update your VG drivers?

I would say its the monitor he is using. if its a 14" dont bother trying to set the rez
above 800x600, it could also be a conflicting refresh rate from the vcard that the monitor
can not handle.

Pogi Tuner.

i think pogi_2nr has it right, it sounds like the screen jus cannot go up to the resolution that he wants it run at.

I only got the system unit. The monitor i had from before. About the drivers i would think the place where i got installed the drivers.

right click your background and select properties. then select the advanced tab. look at the picture of the monitor, underneath it you should see some text. what does it say??

eg. plug and play monitor on nvidia gforce 2 mx.

holly crap!

i know that onboard card.....i hot a whole heap of incompatible issues when trying to run games on that card a while back

though your problem is not game related...you should think about a VC and monitor upgrade

go to you display settings click advanced then click moniter and change the hertz to 75 or 80. if that doesn't work the go back to the display settings click appearance from the top change the front to large then try changing the pixels again either one should work.If none of them works send the name of your video card and i will send you some new drivers .

Some monitors can't handle higher resolutions at high refresh rates. So lowering your refresh might allow you to change the resolution to something higher.

new video card, nope. max has some good ones here for about 8grand. if u don't plan to do much gaming 2 or 3 grand should do you fine.

if your video card and monitor can support higher resolutions and u turn increase it over the hertz that it can handle or colour quality, the settings will automatically decrease to handle the resolution you want.

looking back at your problem i am all most sure its a driver problem here is what you must do open my computer right click in the open select properties the click on hardware then click devise manager the device manager should come up you need to look for display adapters click the + beside it,you should see the name of your vga right click on it and select update and use the cd you got with the computer if you did get any then select update from the internet

I somehow feel he has some settings wrong. but if its not that i would say its the monitor, becuz the graph card shoild be able to go above that resolution.

drop the refersh rate to 60 (apply) and then try to go up to 1024x768, chances are your monitor won't do 1024x.. at 85 but might do it at 75 so start with 60, if that works then try higher
