Anybody else unable to make free calls to the US and Canada as of today, using Google Talk? I was able to call a number in the US this morning, but this evening it started telling me I needed credit to make calls.

I made 3 calls in the morning but since 12 today i am unable to make calls. Its now saying that i don't have enough minutes to make the call. I guess its not free anymore.

Maybe this blog post might be helpful.

Maybe they had a hiccup with their systems trying to implement this?

I think it might be a system problem because at the beginning of the year they said they had extended the free US and Canada free calling for all of 2011

i saw this at the bottom of the page

http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2011/08/calling-from-gmail-now-in-38-languages.html

"Calls to the U.S. or Canada placed within those countries will continue to be free at least for the rest of 2011. Calls to the U.S. or Canada placed from outside these countries will be charged $0.01 per minute (or €0.01, £0.01, C$0.01 per minute)."

Yup. The freeness has ended. It use to be you can make calls to the US and Canada from anywhere around the world for free. But they now have restricted it to within the US. Just tried calling a US number and says I don't have enough credit. :(

Well, there is a saying that nothing last forever. I guess it's back to Skyping and other VOIP services.

Skype not bad still. Costs me like JMD$1,000 per month (have to pay JMD$3,000 for the 3 months tho) to call 45+ countries, and I get my online number for 3 months for an additional JMD$1,000. So that's like JMD$4,000 for 3 months of unlimited calling to wherever plus an online number.
