The latest in a host of business and personal solutions will be on show at Horizon 2005, a technology show hosted by Cable and Wireless Jamaica Limited, which opens on Thursday at the National Arena.
The four-day show, according to the organiser, will feature, among other things, hands-on access to the latest technologies and solutions to enhance businesses and personal lives. Cable and Wireless apart, another 32 exhibitors including Nortel, Microsoft, Avaya and BizNet will have their items on display. The expo will also have an emphasis on personal finance with the inclusion of several credit unions, as well as the Bank of Nova Scotia and the National Commercial Bank among the exhibitors. "We will have a wide number of solutions to cover the office, home security and mobile technology," explained Christine Staple-Ebanks, C&WJ manager of corporate events and programmes. "We have moved to a more business technology focus highlighting how do you apply new technologies to the home, office and in our daily lives," Ebanks told Sunday Finance. Horizon 2005 will kick off with Business Horizon on Thursday and Friday catering only to businesses. Over the two days, the expo will have as part of its core focus, voice over Internet protocol (IP), different vertical market solutions for the hospitality industry; organisational applications for attorneys and a forum for chief information officers focussing on the evolution of information technology. The big event unfolds on the last two days when the show opens to the public. "We will have on show what is available for the general individual, what is hot, new and available for them," said Ebanks. "We will have a lot of retail products including broad band packages," she added. A highlight of the show will be the 'Youth Horizon' on July 7 and 8. "Here we are targeting young people up to age 21, to show them the different applications of technology in their lives," she said, noting that there will be a focus on Internet safety for children. She said admission to Youth Horizon is free to students and teachers. Horizon 2005 is the fourth such technology show in five years for Cable and Wireless. No show was held in 2004. This year's event is expected to attract an estimated 15,000 patrons over the four days. "No one shoud miss this even," said Ebanks. "This is the only chance you'll get to test drive something before you buy." http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/magazines/Business/html/20050703T000000-0500_83531_OBS_A_WORLD_OF_TECHNOLOGY_IN_ONE_ARENA.asp |
